I have two normal green peach-faced lovebirds that have just produced three entirely different chicks...one is a lutino (yellow), one appears to be normal (to soon to tell if it is a pied...yellow/white feathers will start on the wings if it is)....and one that baffles me--it has white down instead of yellow/orange, but does have dark eyes. Anybody want to offer information or an opinion on what this little one will turn out to be? I am guessing a Dutch blue mutation..... /Linda

The chick did turn out to be a Dutch blue....other hens have produced chicks now with white down.....at least now I know what they'll be! The orange fuzz chicks are green...still to come is how to tell the normal greens from the dark factor greens!! The lutinos and creaminos are easy...they have red eyes that can be seen right as soon as they hatch...and I've learned by now that the red-eyed babies with white down are the creaminos....the red-eyed babies with orange fuzz are the lutinos! I'll be raising some color mutation black-masked lovebirds soon.....wonder what their chicks will look like? Guess maybe this should really have been in note 457, a breeder's log,....../Linda |
