391.0. "Roselas - what are they like?" by SALSA::DEFRANCO () Thu Aug 02 1990 18:06

    Hi,

does anyone out there know about Roselas? I saw one at our local grain
store and was just starting to get into questioning the sales person
when my husband noticed and decided it was time to drag his animal
loving wife out of the store. He sais NO MORE ANIMALS! Funny, though,
he just adopted a greyhound about a week ago, with my approval or
    course.

Anyhow, back to the birds. This so called Rosela was slightly larger
than a cockatiel and has lovely, deep shaded purple and green feathers.
Actually, she (or he) was quite dull looking until the it moved and
caught the light and then what a wonderful shine of brilliant, deep
colors. I was very impressed and would like to know more about these
    lovely birds.

If anyone has info on their characters, needs, etc.. I would love to
    know about them.

    Thanks,

    Jeanne

    Hi Jeanne,

My mother in law had one they are beautiful birds. They do not talk
that I know of but they are the best whistlers. My inlaws taught
Rainbow to whistle here comes the bride happy birthday and many
more tunes. Rainbow ate just about everything he loved carrots.
The Roselas are very dexterous they will pick up there food
with there feet before eating it. My inlaws sold there bird because
they are moving to Tennessee. I would have taken the bird but I
live in a one bedroom with three other birds and one more was too
many. Go for it they are wonderful birds!
