317.0. "News of a Bird Theft in Massachusetts" by WMOIS::B_REINKE (if you are a dreamer, come in..) Thu Feb 15 1990 12:23

Three birds were stolen from the Bird Corner Pet Store in Salem
either late Tuesday night or early Wednesday morning.

They were a blue and gold macaw named Maggie, a white cockatoo
named Major, and a black macaw named Fiddler.

The birds were the tamest in the store and were the personal pets
of the owner and his family.

They talk continually, with lines picked up in the store.

I saw this in the newspaper. I did have a question. I thought I was
pretty well versed on different types of Psitticines - what the heck is
    a black macaw?

317.2BIRD BURGLARS ON THE LOOSE!FDCV07::BOURGAULTThu Feb 15 1990 13:3015
Another misfortunate theft occured last month in Nashua area. Dr. Al
Decoteau had 4-5 birds taken from his aviary during the day.
Apparently the thieves waited until he left for a brief period of time
and snuck in through a back door. They stole the first 2-3 birds
which consisted of a beautiful bluefront, a cockatoo and a perfect
lorie. The thieves came back the next day or so and stol a couple
    of more.

I guess there are many thefts (even in private homes) going on in
the New Hampshire and Maine area right now. My bird club (BOAF)
sent out a strong message to us in this month's bulletin.

    Keep your birds locked up!

The black macaw turns out in another newspaper article to be a myna
bird. All three birds have been returned to their owners and the
men who had them in their possession were arrested.
