Please can anyone HELP????? I am wanting a Parrot, preferrably an Amazon. BUT my wife says they are too noisy and destructive. We have come to a compromise, as I told her I would look at quieter birds. I have heard and read that Senegal Parrots are a much quieter bird and much less destructive but I have not been able to find out much more. 1) Is what I have heard true? 2) Do they talk etc.? 3) What do they eat/like? Any information would be welcome and much appreciated. Thanks in anticipation Bob.

You may want to get a copy of this month's Bird Talk. There is a long article about Pionus parrots which, according to the article, are much quieter than most parrot species. Lots of pictures too. Unfortunately, I don't know much about Senegals, but I do know that amazons and especially conures can be very loud. Lots of luck. Nothing's more fun than shopping around and trying to find out what type of bird is right for you. Roseanne | |||||

They are quiet and quite nice. They are small enough for easy care and large enough to be interesting. I would recommend a hand fed, if you can find them. When Al Decoteau had his aviary in Dunstable, he had handfed Pionus, maybe he has them in his new aviary in Nashua, I don't know. If someone knows his number, you could give him a call, if you are in this area. -dick |
