Pat,
A few names that might be of interest with a regal twist:
Rajji (Not sure of spelling but it means King in India)
Sasha (Feminine but with a touch of mistique)
Sinbad (Strong Character name with a flair for the sea!)
Ruby (Depicts color and is a rich/seductive name)
Gypsy (Independant, mysterious)
Merlin (Mystical)
Shaman (Indian Medicine Man)
Fun Names:
Reginald (Reggie)
Elvira
Kiska (taken from a book I read by John Saul - Kiska was the name of
a hawk with mystical powers)
That's it. Hope I haven't bored you to death.
Congratulations on your latest addition and best of luck!
Regards,
Denise
P.S. Thanks for your helpful hints on the Moluccan Cockatoos. My
Moluccan is doing great! I got her in March - and she was
wild caught and quite nervous. She now is a devoted friend
who just adores being cuddled and kissed. She is well behaved
and outside of chewing any piece of wood she can get her beak
on is a pink pussycat. She is still leary of strangers...
and men! She loves most foods as well. Again thanks for your
help!

263.4 | CONGRATULATIONS!!! | SVCRUS::BUCCIERI | | Wed Sep 20 1989 15:20 | 11 |
| Hi Pat,
Congratulations on your new addition to the family. I wish you
the best of luck with your new scarlet. How is koko and bubba
handling the change. There is probably some degree of jealousy
there. I am not very good at choosing names either but I at least
wanted to wish you well.
Green with envy,
Jim Buccieri

| My scarlet's name is Zackery. We choose that because it was a little off beat
(as he is).
When we were about to get him (her?), we got some of books out ot the
library. One on baby names, one on mythology, and a couple of others that we
thought would contain good choices for names. If I remember correctly, we also
used a book that contained all the names ever used for characters on the old
Star Trek series (there were a few good ones in there , actually).
But in the end, none of this worked and I can't remembder how we ended up with
Zackery.
Good Luck,
Dom
PS Let me know how his personality developes. Zack, while very friendly to me
and mostly to my wife, hates strangers. He does not tolerate too much stress
in his life without going into a screaming fit. So, when people come to the
house, there is about an 80% chance that Zack will not be able to deal with the
commotion and have to be covered. This leaves guests with the feeling of
"Why would anyone keep such a noisy, useless animal around". He also thinks
he is the boss and he want what he wants, when he wants it. And if he doesn't
get it he lets you know, either by growling, biting (not hard, but hard enough),
or screaming. WHAT A LIFE!!!
PPS I always enjoy your column in Bird Talk....I can always say "Sounds like
Zack" about at least part of each months edition

263.7 | How about Zephyr? | DNEAST::CHIMERA_DON | | Thu Sep 21 1989 12:56 | 6 |
| Hi Pat,
Congratulations on the new baby! I've been trying to think of a good
name and about all I've come up with so far is the name Zephyr. It's
sort of unusual and kind of a unisex name... Best of luck in your
search for the right name.

263.8 | Phoebe | USHS05::WALZ | | Wed Sep 27 1989 11:18 | 31 |
| Thank you all for your contributions (including the many people who
wrote me directly).
The child has been named . . . . . Phoebe . . . . . the feminine for
Phoebus, the sun god.
The name suits her, she is feathering out beautifully and colorfully.
She will be four months old on October 1. She is still being hand
fed both morning and evening. Last night was a breakthrough: She
would eat cooked corn, but only if I handed it up to her kernal by
kernal. Her beak was a mess of corn kernals by the end. (I got
tired, she would have eaten all night).
Regarding personality: She is still a cuddley little baby. She will
cry to be held close until she falls asleep. One thing I have noticed
that is different between my blue and gold and my scarlet. SHE IS
A SCREAMER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I cannot believe the decible
level nor the number of the screams for any reason. KoKo is very
quiet by comparison, screaming only with good reason.
The two of them, naturally hate each other. KoKo was initially sweet
toward the baby, but that ended as Phoebe got more and more attention.
She is already saying hello and hi!!! She also flaps her wings
when placed outside the cage. She will do this for several minutes
at a time until totally exhausted.
In short, I love Phoebe. I wish I could send all the notes file
readers pictures. I definitely will be writing about her in my
Bird Talk column.

263.10 | Baby Phoebe | USHS05::WALZ | | Mon Jan 15 1990 14:44 | 10 |
| Hey, thanks for reading the column. Actually the photo os the sun
conure babies was mine, the one of the scarlet was someone else's.
It did look like Phoebe, though.
She is still young and clumsy, but she sure is CUTE! She has also
recently discovered the joys of Buffalo wings!!!
Love those macaws!

263.11 | Buffalo wings are an important part of a Macaw's diet | AVIAN::KIRSCHBAUM | On wings of fiberglas & steel | Mon Jan 15 1990 16:51 | 16 |

I was under the impression that somewhere on the wrapping of the
Purdue Farms Hot Wings, it said that they were the an important
ingredient in the diet for all macaws....
Anyway, Avalon (my blue & gold) things that they are the food of
the gods....
They can almost make as big a mess out of a young macaw as chicken
noodle soup (heavy on the chicken and noodles, lite on the soup) or
a piece of rye bread with peanut butter and jelly...
I am not entirely sure that my kids ever ate this well...
