I can only second your experience, my Blue and Gold loves to go
anywhere in the car. He looks out the window and has a grand time.
I have a fairly large wire cage that i put in the back of a Bronco

| Hansel and Gretel used to travel alot in their younger days. I
would cover their cage with a blanket, and then seatbelt the cage
into the front seat of my car.
Traveling in the winter was always kind of tough. I would be sure
to thoroughly warm the car, then get the car as close to the houe
as possible, then I would add a quilt over the blanket for the quick
run outside. Once in the car, I would remove the quilt, leaving
the blanket. I would always be careful about airflow - not too
extreme around teh birdies.
I have never considered going for pleasure rides since I don't think
the car is the safest place for H&G.

| My little parakeet Lymon loves to ride in the car. I seat belt
him into the fornt seat and off we go! He peeps and chirps and
has a great time. We sure do get some strange looks though.

| My African Grey parrot travels reasonably well. He looks all around
and will even give an occaisonal tentative whistle. He usually
looks a little more cautious than usual, but not overly stressed.
I just take his cage, although I am going to start removing the
perches so that he can't fall off one.
I avoid taking him out in the winter, but if it's necessary I follow
precautions similar to the previous noter.

216.6 | Summer trips only | TROA01::LAMPINEN | | Wed Aug 02 1989 19:22 | 23 |
| My pink and grey Galah loves car rides to the cottage. Every summer
he seems to get anxious when the weather warms up and then settles down
after he has had one trip. Plus the change of scenery is nice for
him he likes to watch the world go by and vice versa (he seems to
attract attention).
When he was younger we used to let him out of his cage and he would
sit quite comfortably on the front bench seat looking out the back window
and leaning into all those corners some of the roads seem to offer.
Now he is content to sit in his cage and swing his way up to the
cottage, front seat of course.
Music he seems to like and depending what's playing he might give the
odd squawk or hello.
We often stop for snacks, ice-cream (chocolate) is one of his
favorites, as he is not to happy to run down to his water or seed
bowl during the drive.
As for winter trips....not if he can help it.

216.7 | A Traveling Bird! | ENGINE::DUFOUR | | Thu Aug 03 1989 16:53 | 10 |
| My Mytred Conure loves to ride, on my shoulder when we're in the
car. He goes from one shoulder to the other and back again. The
only thing he's afraid of is motorcycles. Other then that he has
no trouble at all. If I don't take him when I leave the house he
screams till he can't here the car anymore....My family says I spoil
him, but that's ok, he deserves it. I saved him from a terrible
pet shop 2 1/2 years ago, and he's thanked me ever since by being
my best buddy....
