160.2 | Still learning what Quarantine means! | CHEFS::DEAL | | Mon Apr 17 1989 05:40 | 8 |
| From all I have been able to find out, quarantine can be done in
place, the home, or whereever. Essentially it means the birds cannot
be sold or given away for a specified period of time. This is a
factor in the entire move logistics!!
Since they have never been out of their cage, and I can prove it
with bands, not sure how serious an issue this is. Still, it's
a legal fact of life, isn't it!

160.3 | Double check | NEXUS::M_ROBSON | News item from the Banzia Institute | Mon Apr 17 1989 13:53 | 3 |
| I would double check your info. (I may be wrong) but at least for
hookbills brought into the country there are "official" q. stations,
which are run by the government.

160.4 | It is VERY confusing! | CHEFS::DEAL | | Tue Apr 18 1989 09:10 | 6 |
| The info varies depending on source (Ministry of Agriculture and
Cage & Aviary info dept) as well as port of entry in the States.
It appears there is not much consistancy making this entire move
doubly difficult.
Appreciate the support from that side!

160.5 | let it rain | GUIDUK::SMITH | | Fri Jun 09 1989 15:42 | 2 |
| With regard to your original .0 note, you might want to put this request
in the DECWET::SEATTLE notes file.

160.6 | Yes, we do quarantine!! | CHEFS::DEAL | | Tue Jul 04 1989 06:58 | 16 |
| Just to update this note, in case anyone else tries to move their
pet birds -- DONT! Not only does the information vary between
government agencies, airlines, vets and any other source of
information, no matter what you ask, you get a form which is impossible
to fill out, and weeks go by before you find out you've got the
wrong form.
I've not given up yet but it is very very difficult. The Chinese
painted quail has already been given up but fortunately none of
the others are on any kind of restriction or endangered list. The
hassle factor is the correct procedure and, now, timing. I'll not
mention money, that is still an unknown quantity but it appears
from the current level of inforamtion that the cost will exceed
the monetary value of the birds.
I understand protection but this is really over the top!

| this may cost you a little of money but you can try for some help
this way. call & talk to silvia King 508-365-5525 and discribe
the problem you are having. she imports all the time and she may
be able to help you. be sure to tell her you got her name through
the notes file. also don langell in boxford, ma imports from england
all the time so there has got to be an easy way. I do not have
his phone number but I am sure you can get it from information.

160.8 | Thanks for the contacts | CHEFS::DEAL | | Fri Jul 07 1989 13:18 | 3 |
| Thank you, I'll see if the U.S. gov't responds in a timely fashion
(like the end of next week!) and go from there. Appreciate the
support.
