140.1 | Just a Regular Bird Bath | NYFS01::CHERYL | Cheryl McGinty | Tue Mar 07 1989 15:01 | 9 |
| I have a bird bath for my finches (it's more like a swimming pool
to them) that clips onto the outside of the cage. It comes in two
pieces, so you could use it without the plastic shield, if you like.
The bottom has a plastic grid, so they don't slip. I bought it
for about $2.00 and it would be plenty big for a budgie. (4 finches
swim in it at a time).

140.2 | More on Bath Cups | AKOV12::SELESKY | | Wed Mar 08 1989 08:50 | 20 |
| I use the green plastic (with metal hooks) dishes (I guess they're
really meant to be large seed cups for large parrots) that I originally
bought at Boston Pet Center in Boston (near Lechmere and Kendall
Square). There only about 4" wide and 2-2 1/2" high and perfect
for my finches. My budgie steps in it and bathes but unfortunately
it's not large enough for him to really spread his wings and splash
in the water. However, it's been good enough. He can get pretty
wet and my other budgies have done all sorts of maneuvers to dip
their chests in and their foreheads in and spray the water a bit
onto their backs. I prefer plastic for everythings because it doesn't
rust. I hook this cup into the finches cages each morning with
only about 1/2" of water. They sit in it and splash themselves
like crazy. Only one at a time, though occasionally 2 will sit
in it together. They really get soaked. My budgie is more
conservative but he can still get pretty wet. I spray him with
water every couple of weeks to supplement his bath. His bath cup
is always available (I fill it higher than the finches' cups) in
a bamboo basket by a mirror perch I made for him outside the cage
(he flies free all day in the bird room). These cups cost about
$3.

140.3 | my birds don't bathe | WMOIS::B_REINKE | If you are a dreamer, come in.. | Sat Mar 11 1989 08:06 | 5 |
| My birds have a very large water dish but never use it for bathing.
I used to put a dish of water for baths in seprately as well but
again they never used it. Should I try and encourge them to bathe?

140.4 | Buddies' Tub | GIAENG::PULSIFER | Doug Pulsifer 296-3332 | Mon Mar 13 1989 08:01 | 22 |
| I have read that some birds may bathe twice a year and others want
to bathe everyday. My two older budgies (Tweety and Rita), never
bathe much, but I try to mist them about once a week. sometimes
they like it and sometimes not. Buddie likes to bathe but was having
trouble figuring out how to get all wet in the bowl I was providing.
I finally ended up with a plastic saucer designed to fit a 10" flower
pot. It is supposed to look like clay so it has a nice non-skid
surface. The Clay saucer I originally bought never lost the bleach
odor after I tried to sterilize it with a bleach solution.
My real reason for looking for a good bath was Buddie is so cute
when he tries to bathe, Does this make me Voyeur ?
