I was checking a new book I bought,"Pet Birds" and found there was no reference to Red Lored Amazons, but the the Yellow Cheeked Amazon looked exactly the same. Does anyone know if they are the same bird? The book says that Breeding sucesses with the Yellow Cheeked are rare, does this hold true for the Red Lored ? Doug *< ^^0^^ ^

You're right - they're the same bird! The proof is in the Latin. My "Parrots" by Petra Deimer (pub. Barron's, translated from German) lists the Red-lored Amazon as Amazona autumnalis. My Simon & Schuster's Guide to Pet Birds (by Matthew Vriends) must be the same as your book. There's no Red Lored mentioned, and the Yellow Cheeked is called A. autumnalis. -Steve |
