| How much does a pair of these parrakeets run? How big a cage do
they need?

| I have not seen my bourkes climb very much at all. they have great
flying ability. just flighted birds have to have some feathers
cliped or they will break their necks very quickly.
cage requiremts of 2 foot by 4 foot with at least 2 feet high.
anything over 4 birds in this size cage has been nothing but problems
for me. I have had as high as 6 in a 2 by 4 by 3 foot high cage.
of course I always spoil my birds.

21.3 | About the cost.... | CSC32::K_WORKMAN | P.I.A.S.O.M. | Wed Nov 16 1988 10:08 | 23 |
| At the last show I was at in Colorado a breeder had 4 pairs of
gorgeous bourkes. They where all hand-fed and I was really
considering getting a pair but just have too many other birds
that need lots of attention. The price's where a little strange,
the females where 225.00 and the males where 175.00. My Green
Cheek Conure I bought a few weeks ago was 250.00 (not at a show
though), so I guess the price for hand-fed bourkes was okay considering
that they usually raise the prices a bit at shows because they have
to usually give a % of any sales back to who ever puts on the show
to help with costs.
I guess the females are harder to come by? Maybe someone else has
some more info on this. I know with the Painted Conure that I will
be picking up in a few weeks the females ARE hard to come by.
The breeder is going to surgically sex all 4 of the babies so that
she can hopefully get a female for future breeding.
Is this about the price range you see in other states or his this
too high or too low?
Hope this helps...

21.4 | Yeow! Too High! | FREKE::HUTCHINS | Feathered Obsessions Aviary | Wed Nov 16 1988 12:05 | 17 |
| Hi Karen!
Average breeder price for a Bourke is around $50! Retail is somewhere
around $200 for a PAIR!
Were those Bourkes normals, or mutations? Visual mutations always
demand a higher price! But, I'd *never* pay $400 for a pair of
normals! I sold a proven breeding pair for $175 last year, that
included the breeding box!
AND...be extra careful buying birds at shows! We *do not* allow
bird sales at the NHAS shows. If someone is interested in buying
a bird, we put them in touch with the breeders to make arrangements
after the show!

21.5 | Phew.... | CSC32::K_WORKMAN | P.I.A.S.O.M. | Wed Nov 16 1988 14:01 | 8 |
| Phew.... I'm glad I didn't get them then. Does the fact they were
hand fed have anything to do with it possibly? They where all real
friendly and the woman said for a pair she would only charge 350.00.
Big deal huh, 50.00....
I'm not sure if they were normals or not. I don't know much about
them. They where mottled with pink and blue and brown colors.
Can you tell from this?
