770.0. "Win95 and Network" by JULIET::CABREIRA_RO (Bobby Cabreira) Mon Apr 14 1997 02:51

    Has anybody been successful setting up Windows 95 in the Multia, and
    been able to use the Network connection (either TP, thinnet or AI)?

    What driver did you use? When Windows 95 was installed, it added the
    "PCI Ethernet DECchip 21040 Based Adapter", but it does not want to
    communicate to the network. It does not work.

    thanks,

    Bobby C.

    When I went to Add new Hardware , "Multia Ethernet Controller" does not
    show up. Is there a special installation disk that you used to get it
    going?

    thanks.

770.3Dos driver should be okSUTRA::MAHIEUXTue Apr 15 1997 07:089
    I think that if you provide a floppy with the DOS driver MDC21040.DOS
    that resides on Multia Disk or CD there must be a way to get W95
    accomodate it in real mode.Now will this one be sufficient ????
    And by the way performance should not be expected from this non Windows
    driver usage.

What I did to install different OS on my Intel Multia

WNT4.0 : - I think a "MULTIA Ethernet Controller" is included at the NT 4.0CD

Win3.11: - See note 710.6

W95    : - Install W95
         - Add Driver from floppy - like Win3.11 (see Note 710.6)
         - Reboot
         - W95 now tries to (re)install the detected (wrong) driver. Make shure
           that you removed the W95 kit so it won't find it.
         - Say "Cancel"
         - Reboot a second time
         - Now W95 no longer tries to ask for the detected driver... :-)

hope this helps

    search for other notes in this conference about putting w95 on multia.
    I finally made it work from notes in here (but it was awhile ago so
    I don't remember the details)

770.6I have it working with nothing special done.NNTPD::"[email protected]"Eric DubeTue May 20 1997 18:3817
I didn't do anything special. All I did was when I installed it, I
didn't have it look for a network adapter.

When it comes up with the network information section I selected
"add->adapter" and procedure to select the DIGITAL PCI 21040 based
ethernet chip.

That's it. Nothing special, it worked just fine and I have been using
my ethernet ever since.

I still can't get the sound to work!!!!
