747.0. "Strange DQS$QUEUE<q-name> logical behavior" by CSC32::CAWOOD () Thu Feb 27 1997 18:24

    Here's a strange server problem that 3 of us at the CSC haven't been
    able to figure out. s/a OVMS VAX 6.1, DQS 1.3-1. Customer has 617
    existing dqs accessible queues on node RAMSES. All is well. He adds
    queue # 618 - ISD_LPS2 creates the queue, enters it into
    dqs$server_config.txt "QUEUE ISD_LPS2 *" (near but not at the end of
    the queue list), then runs dqs$server_update_config.

    There is no DQS$QUEUE_ISD_LPS2 logical. No errors from
    server_update_config, no opcom msgs, no nothing.

    There are also 8 other queues in the list that begin with isd_lps2.
    They are:

      "DQS$QUEUE_ISD_LPS2_A1" = "* DQS Network Accessible Queue"
      "DQS$QUEUE_ISD_LPS2_ANSI" = "* DQS Network Accessible Queue"
      "DQS$QUEUE_ISD_LPS2_DUPLEX" = "* DQS Network Accessible Queue"
      "DQS$QUEUE_ISD_LPS2_LANDSCAPE" = "* DQS Network Accessible Queue"
      "DQS$QUEUE_ISD_LPS2_LAND_DUP" = "* DQS Network Accessible Queue"
      "DQS$QUEUE_ISD_LPS2_PCL" = "* DQS Network Accessible Queue"
      "DQS$QUEUE_ISD_LPS2_PS" = "* DQS Network Accessible Queue"
      "DQS$QUEUE_ISD_LPS2_SINGLE" = "* DQS Network Accessible Queue"

    If he moves the queue ISD_LPS2 above the other isd_lps2... entries, and
    runs dqs$server_update_config, the logical is created and all is well.

    This is a GOLD customer, and says he's had this same problem in the
    past. So to him this is not dependable and with >600 queues in his
    file, arranging them is not practicle. We don't even understand why
    this behavior is seen to tell him how to arrange the list.

    I have output from DQS_COLLECT if anyone wants to see it.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks,
    Greg Cawood

    Can you give the contents of DQS$SERVER_CONFIG.TXT by adding reply to this
    note, so that I will give a try to test the problem. If you feel that
    it is confidential, you can send it across my mail (STAR::ASWIN).

747.2Reproducible with 2 queues.CSC32::CAWOODMon Mar 10 1997 12:5611
    Thanks Aswin!

    I sent you mail. This is reproducible with just 2 queues.

    QUEUE ISD_LPS2_A1 *
    QUEUE ISD_LPS2 *

    In this order, DQS$QUEUE_ISD_LPS2 is not defined. Switch the order and
    both logicals get defined.
