3237.0. "Explorer problems - NT 4.0 (no serv paks)" by TAPE::ROURKE () Thu May 08 1997 13:24
We have a Network Provider .dll and drivers (for NT 4.0) that are
used to access networked CD-ROM and hard drives. Our product is the
InfoServer. It uses a proprietary protocol which simply moves blocks
of data over the network as directed by the NT Client system.
We have a few problems using the NT Explorer interface with our
Network Provider:
1. After successfully connecting a drive letter (say g:) to a
networked CD-ROM drive (using Map Network
Drive), we see the correct volume label and ICON in
the Explorer's main display. Fine, no problem.
2. If we disconnect drive g:, and then connect drive g: to
a different networked CD-ROM, the explorer main display
shows the volume label and ICON of the 1st connection,
not the new connection! (If we then click on g: and
click View/Refresh, we will see the correct volume
label and ICON).
My guess is that we are not making some necessary call in the
drivers to "clue in" NT that there's been a volume change associated
with the drive letter (we do delete the device object on a disconnect
and create a new device object on a new connection, but some stale
data regarding the volume info is still around that the explorer
is seeing).
MS docs mention calling GetLogicalDrives() as a means of updating
volume information for the system, but calling it did not help.
Thanx for any help.
Jack
