3178.0. "Where did the DDK go ?" by PAMSRC::XHOST::SJZ (Rocking the Messaging Desktop !) Mon Jan 27 1997 23:08

I have the Microsoft Developer Network Level II (Developer Platform)
subscription and CDs (in the white vinyl covered box). The CDs are
numbered 1-9. I seem to recall that the DDK CDs used to say DDK on
them ? None of the ones I have say DDK on the CD. So where is it ?
Or did this disappear with the internationalized kits ?

The DDK CD's are separate. Perhaps you are signed up to only receive the SDK.
I'd call MSDN or whoever you bought the subscription from about getting the
DDK.

Mine has many more CD's than 9 (and the DDKs are there).

    There content listings are in
    http://www.microsoft.com/msdn/index/index.htm. Maybe you got
    an incomplete kit.

remember when they dropped the international stuff but
you could send in a card to get the kits if you really
wanted them. is it now the same for the DDK ? Just be-
fore they switched to the vinyl box distribution, I
would get two packs of CDs. One was the System CDs
(sans Japanese, German, Spanish, French, et al.) and
    the other was the DDK.

it seems that it would stop coming with the DDK.

remember when they dropped the international stuff but

Maybe it's different for Europe, but I don't remember...

I just checked, mine has 27 gold colored international CDs, 10
greeenish CDs with the US versions and SDKs, and 7 purple CDs with the
    DDKs.

This is level II (professional or whatever it's called nowadays). I
    never asked for anything extra.

Nevermind. I just got my 1997 box today - sans DDK.
So I get on the horn to the MSDN people and they
say that the 7 CDs for the DDK are "optional". You
need to call them and tell them that you want the
CDs (just like the international stuff).

If you are already subscribed to the Developer Plat-
form Level, then the CDs are free for the asking,
but you do need to ask.

re .5: Where are you located?

Must be different - I've always got them without asking.

I'm not the poster in .5, but I remember being asked by Microsoft which
parts of the MSDN L2 I wished to receive. All parts are available for
the asking, but as a cost and resource savings, only the required parts
were to be shipped. I chose to receive the DDK but not the
international kit. I've been off subscription for a year, but am going
back on L3/enterprise. We'll see what is offered this time for saving
    resources.

    I'm in the U.S.A.
