2258.0. "Direct printer setup." by HGOM30::THANHSON () Thu May 08 1997 09:56

    Hi,

       I am a new person working on VMS. Now, there one customer neding to
    connect a printer to DEC2000 with OVMS V6.2 using directly cable. If
    anyone can give me a full introduction to setup it ?

       And once more question, if I can print out to the above printer from
    an other node ( ei. DEC2000 with OVMS v6.2) over network ?

    Your replies are much appreciated.

    Thank in advance,

    Son.

OpenVMS supports printing via the serial port but not the parallel port. What
printer are you trying to connect?

The DEClaser 3200 has a serial port. You can connect it to an OpenVMS system
directly or to a terminal server. If it is indeed a 3200, use the LAT symbiont
to create a queue. If it is a 3250 (PostScript), use DECprint Supervisor (DCPS).

Please refer to OpenVMS and/or DCPS documentation for instructions.

Using a terminal server will allow LAT connections from other systems. Adding a
device such as a RapidPrint 500 will allow LAT, TCP/IP, NetWare and AppleTalk
connections.
