| I'm waiting on the rule book to see specifically what sort of things I
can/need to do. So far I've gutted the interior.
The drivers front end is pushed in, which broke the headlight bezel.
No biggie because i'm getting all the IROC junk to jazz the thing up.
The hood is bent up like a pretzel.
Structurally this thing looks good.
I have a 305 I'm waiting on building. I have the wrong heads, so those
are for sale or will go on my 1979 camaro.
I need to determine who to deal with on suspension stuff.
I'm buying a prebent weld in cage from S&W racecars in Pennsylvania in
July when I travel to new england for "vacation".
That's about all for now, just waiting on the rules and getting ready
for a swap meet (Super Chevy Show) this weekend, where I'll be a
vendor. Hopefully I'll sell enough stuff to pay for my house this
month. :^)

| Hi Mike,
Congrats... You may want to wait for the rule book before making too
many changes... :-) If problems are caught before you put a wheel on
the track, you generally get your entrance fee back, but if you're on
the track and find something illegal later, we keep the $$$. :-)

| Mike, what kind of competition license do you need for club racing?

| I need to go to drivers school, and get a novice license. Then you can
step up to a regional license if you do ok. Finally, you can get
a national license. I suppose each step cost more $$$$. Also,
the class I'm going racing is called American Sedan, which i believe
is regional? Maybe not, because I worked the national event last
weekend and they had a bunch of AS cars there.
I think I can get by with a regional license.
re: rules, legality, etc... my car will be 100% SAFE and 100% legal.
I MAY use the rules to my advantage, i.e. compression ratio is 10.3
max.... I'll be 10.25. Weight is ~3200... I'll be 3205.
I'm interested in stuff like, can I replace my windshield with lexan,
since my current windshield is busted.... stuff like that

| Oh ya, one "major" thing I want/need to do is change the rear drum
brakes to disks. Shouldn't be a big deal, nor should it be too
expensive.

| Hope you like to do body work after an event. AS is probably second
only to Sports Rambo Ford (formerly SR...) when it comes to banging
bodies together... :-)
A couple of years ago we had the WALL brothers at NHIS banging
each other for many laps. Johnny said the worst part wasn't the
stewards, wasn't his dad, but his MOTHER!!! He said he DID have a ball
though....

| I towed the thing home from tampa no sweat. my sister stuffed the
back end into a concrete wall unloading it off the trailer in my
yard. Do I like to do bodywork? Sorta...
IT can't be worse than the nascar guys.

Mike, you would probably be best off if you can find a notoriously
agressive inspector who can give you ideas what to do and not to do
before you try the first run-thru at inspection. Something that our
local SCCA inspection "steward" (or whatever the heck ya call 'em,
SCCA's got more stewards than most railroads ever did;-) just found out
for himself; you need to *maintain* your fire bottles. Apparently the
mechanism that performs as the release gets corroded fairly easily, and
that corrosion causes the bottle to be about worthless. Fortunately
he noticed this when his Sports 2K was in a show and someone pulled
the release pin, slammed the button and the bottle didn't "fire."

| I worked tech last weekend at Road Atlanta, plus I got pretty close
to the Chief Scrutineer for the SE region....
The fellow said: "If it ISN'T mentioned, consider it prohibited".
or something like that. It was suggested I work tech before going
off and building something, which was a good idea. I KNOW I wanted
A/Sedan...
The rules came today. Some things I woulda done are prohibited, for
example, having my PCV system vented into my collector. Prohibited.
No gear drive. I apparently can't "gut" my interior sheet metal (like
cut tabs off and stuff). I can gut the door.
re: the lexan... I am going to do this, unless told it's not legal.
The rules mention: WINDOWS, clean and clear. WINDOW. Not "glass".
Lexan, to me... is a safety issue. (not only is it lighter than glass)
but I can hit it with a hammer and it won't break. That is a safety
issue, not a performance advantage. Also, it'll be braced properly.
I'm digging up some other questions that I'll need to itemize, but
right now I'm in research mode, "scrutineer" mode, and figure out
where to go next. Like maybe finish my cavalier and Z/28.

I seem to recall the GCR states that explicitly.
Re. windshield material: I'm surprised the A/Sedan rules don't deal
with that. But see above...
Been a while since I was involved in SCCA racing, so many things could
have changed, too. Used to be, you needed both the GCR and the
specific category rules to get everything sorted out.
