81.0. "Autoweek - Paul Tracy/Roger Penske in simulator?" by STAR::BOIKO (ALPHA/VAX Performance Group - ZKO3/4) Tue May 18 1993 12:50

In this past weeks Autoweek there is a picture of Paul Tracy and Roger
Penske sitting in what looks like an arcade driving game...but, I've
never seen one that looked like that before.

What arcade game were they playing on.....it included about half a
    cockpit and air box included.

It's a game called "Virtua Racing". It's probably in any decent-sized
arcade nearby. I understand up to 8 of the games can be linked, and you
compete against the other drivers. I've also seen them as singles.

The seats vary from a hard plastic bench to a nice contoured seat with
pressure pads that push on your back...that's the one that has the "half a
cockpit and air box included".

The steering wheel offers feedback -- that is, there's actually some push
back through the wheel. I've played it only a couple times, so I can't say
how real-world it is (if I have an understeering car, does it give a
shuddering/plowing feedback? dunno...) , but a co-worker here really likes
it.

There's 4 different perspective you may view from -- in-car, slightly
above, higher still, and blimp ;^) . Three different circuits are
available.

The game costs between 75 and $1 in my neck of the woods...you could drop
$5 a week on it and be fairly well entertained.
