309.1some help but maybe not enoughSOLVIT::PLATTFri Oct 02 1992 15:5412
Am assuming you're asking about the Pro series for both F2000 and
Atlantic. If that's the case, I can't help other to say they're both
expensive and that the Pro F2000 is "iffy" at best about staying alive.
It's been started and stopped and restarted at least twice in the past
two-three years. Supposedly it's up and running again. The Atlantic
series is much better organized, plus has limited TV exposure.

If you're talking about amateur racing (SCCA), I can be of some more
assitance as the fellow I'm dating has a F2000 car (which just happens
to be for sale, by the way).

I think the amateur is what I'm referring to. Does the F2000 have
a regular schedule and where would I get it. Also do they race in
Canada as well as the United States?

Also -- what type of car exactly? How Fast? What kind of a track do
they race on. Also if they ever race near N.H. or MA. or ME.

Sorry so many questions. But really know so little.

I can provide a little help...

I just sold my F2000 car. 1990 Reynard. I raced SCCA regional 1/2 year and
national 1/2 a year. I loved the car and the racing, but it was more
expensive than I could stand. The time committment was also too great.

F2000 pro is in it's 3rd year. This year there was a pro east and pro west
division. The winners would compete at the end of the season if there was
enough interest, but undeceided as of this date. The formal season is now
over, but there is discussion of 1 additional race. The idea of this was to
allow an entry into open wheel racing, that allowed lower costs and that
could be used as the bottom rung on a climb to indy cars. F2000 to FA
(atlantic) to INDY LIGHTS to CART. The interest has been good. The conflicts
have been around scheduling, since there is a very active regional and
national SCCA program for these cars on mostly the same weekends, forcing a
decision by the racers at every schedule conflict.

I did not race pro but stayed in SCCA. I raced, and even beat many of the
guys now racing F2000 pro. They mainly have more time and more money to
spend. Most have gotten new cars now and are 1-2 seconds faster than they
were when I was racing.

My rig cost 34,000.00 whan purchased after 1 season from new. I raced the end
of 1 season and the beginning of another. I had 3 spare noses, xtra wings,
tails, gear-sets, wheels, 2 engines, corners, etc.

A car can be purchased for appx. $20K for reasonably competitive, and $35k
for very competitive. As with all racing, if you want to be out front, you
have to spend the bucks.
