215.1 | LOTS of clubs, Three larger ones. | NSSG::DAVE | Dave Lyons - Networks DCC - 226-5934 - LKG2-1/S4 | Fri Sep 07 1990 21:41 | 11 |
| There are current three Major rally groups running TSD's in New
England. (There are others, but these three run most of the events)
They are:
NER-SCCA (New England Region - Sports Car Club of America)
TCNE (Tour Club of New England)
WASSC (Worcester Area Sports Car Club)
If no-one beats me to it, I'll post contacts when I get back from a
road trip to visit a few customer locations (2 weeks).

215.2 | PCA also runs rallies | SUBWAY::JANKOWITZ | It used to have four wheels | Mon Sep 10 1990 09:27 | 4 |
|
The different regions of the Porsche Club of America also run road rallies.
If you tell me where you are I may be able to get you someones phone number.
Whether non-members are allowed to run varies.

215.3 | Thanks! | STAR::NELSON | | Mon Sep 10 1990 15:33 | 8 |
| Thanks for your replies. Bette French has kindly provided me with
club names and contacts via MAIL, tho I'd still be interested in
announcements of "unofficial" rallies. BTW, is there a note in this
conference (or another) that specifically addresses rallys?
Thanks again,
Pat

215.4 | what do you mean? | OASS::BURDEN_D | He's no fun, he fell right over | Mon Sep 10 1990 18:39 | 13 |
| Pat, what do you mean by 'unofficial' rallies? Do you mean Gimmick type
events where you drive around with vague instructions trying to answer
questions off 200 year old mail boxes? Or do you mean something like the
old Tri-State that involved driving all night through the middle of a snow storm
at some impossible CAS (average speed)?
The Sports Car Club of NH, Killington SSC and COM used to do some level of
gimmick rallies, not sure if they still do.
If you want the other type (if they are still being organized) I can give
you the name and number of the guy that used to organize the Tri-State.

215.5 | Tri State was great.... | NSSG::DAVE | Dave Lyons - Networks DCC - 226-5934 - LKG2-1/S4 | Tue Sep 11 1990 18:56 | 13 |
| The Tri_States were fun, thats for sure... One year, I was talked into
running a number of checkpoints, and remember hitting a rather large
pot-hole trying to make it to the next check points in time.
I ended up parked on the side of a road, on ice and snow, doing a
front end allignment on my VW, and having the local farmer come out (at
1 AM) to see what was going on. There was a ICE/RAIN storm in the
middle on the rally due to some unreasonabley warm weather (35 in
January is warm), and the trees over the roads, coated with Ice, in the
headlights at night was truly spectacular.

215.7 | What do I need? | HPSTEK::BPERKINS | | Wed Oct 03 1990 10:37 | 13 |
|
I'm glad that this note has come up. I was thinking recently of
attempting a rally. A friend of mine (non-DEC) used to do a lot of
rallies, and volunteered to be my navigator. What I would like to know
is what kind of equipment is needed for, say, the NOVICE class? We feel
that that is the one where we would start.
I was hoping to enter this week-end's TCNE, however it is starting
and finishing in Deerfield, MA, and we don't want to go that far away
for our initial run. So, it looks like according to the schedule in -.1
we will have to wait a week.

215.8 | calc/pen/paper | OASS::BURDEN_D | He's no fun, he fell right over | Wed Oct 03 1990 12:47 | 5 |
| For the novice class you should have some sort of caluclator, pencil,
paper and some maps in case you get lost. It's really pretty basic
stuff once you get used to it.

215.9 | Sounds fine to me | HPSTEK::BPERKINS | | Wed Oct 03 1990 14:04 | 9 |
|
Since he's done it before, he's got a rally type clock (measures in
hundredths of minutes) some clip board thingy and other paraphanalia.
I guess that should cover it, then.
Sam, how about sending a flyer (when/if avail.) on the Turkey Chase?
My mail stop is MRO1-3/T4. Thanks in advance.
