|  | Cindy,
I like your choices, but certainly understand about your husband's resistance
(I faced a similar situation last year in searching for our 2nd's name...).
Here are a few ideas that I'd categorize as "inbetween" traditional and "dif-
ferent" that I think sound good with __________ Matt Richardson:
	Bryce
	Connor
	Brady
	Parker
	Wesley
	Dean
	Garrett
	Clayton
	Lukas
	Nathan
	Shane
	Logan
	Tyler
	Zachary
By the way, what are your daughters' names?
Best of luck,
-Cori

    Thanks for your suggestions. We know a Shane (their cousin), a
    Garrett, Nathan, Dean and Tyler but I really like Parker and Lukas.
    Our daughter's names are Alexandra and Jocelyn (which also have the
    "traditional" but different).

    I'll let you know how the "judging" goes tonight.

    Here's some more you might like:

    Andre Matt Richardson
    Sterling Matt Richardson
    Lars Matt Richardson
    Austin Matt Richardson
    Lane Matt Richardson

    Let us know what you decide!

| 960.4 | Del | ODIXIE::RICHARDSON | Are we there yet?? | Mon Aug 29 1994 11:34 | 12 |
| | We really appreciate the suggestions. I've got quite a long list but
    nothing has been decided. I also like Lars and Sterling. I saw the
    name Delaney in a babyname book and really liked the nickname (Del) but
    am not thrilled with Delaney (sounds rather feminine?).

    I'd love to find another Del..... and call him Del (but don't like
    Delmar, Delmont, or any other I've been able to come up with). I could
    just go with Del, but Del Matt Richardson sounds too much like Doormat
    Richardson.

    Girls name sure seemed to be a lot easier!!

| 960.5 | Some "Del" names.. | WROSS2::CROW_DO |  | Mon Aug 29 1994 12:08 | 14 |
| | So what other "Del" names did you come up with? Any of these?:

    Delton
    Delson
    Deller
    Delman
    Delford

    Actually, if you really like just "Del", I'd go ahead and just use
    that - I wouldn't worry about how the first and middle names sound
    together.. from my own experience, most kids don't publicize their
    middle names...

| 960.6 | A few more suggestions for boys... | AMCUCS::MEHRING |  | Mon Aug 29 1994 13:48 | 26 |
| | Well, I'm not too fond of Del (or any of the variants) for a boy, although I
*love* Delaney for a girl (nickname Laney) - this was my #2 girl's choice!
Seems like kids would lean toward "the farmer in the dell" type teasing...
Just my opinion though.
Here are a few more boys options:
	Dane Richardson
	Reed Richardson
	Chase Richardson
	Cody Richardson
	Troy Richardson
	Chet Richardson
	Carter Richardson
	Lance Richardson
	Nolan Richardson
	Colby Richardson
	Wayne Richardson
I left out the middle name since you already said it doesn't matter how the
first name sounds with Matt (this makes it easier to hear how good it goes
with your last name).
So, what does your long list look like so far?
Best of luck as the search continues...

| 960.7 | Another suggestion... | SOLVIT::FLMNGO::WHITCOMB |  | Mon Aug 29 1994 14:34 | 3 |
| | My uncle's name is Delavan (pronounced DEL-a-vin) and has always gone by Del
for short. It's a very unusual name and IMO is kind of a nice sounding name,
especially with your last name.
 |
| 960.8 | complete list - so far | ODIXIE::RICHARDSON | Are we there yet?? | Tue Aug 30 1994 09:08 | 43 |
| | You guys are great! Lots of good suggestions. I like Delavan - very
    different but not as feninine sounding as Delaney. I've gotten similar
    reactions from several people about Delaney - it does sound kind of
    "girlish". It seems as though you can name girls "boy" name
    ((Alex)andra (I have one of those), Jordan, Taylor, Morgan, Chandler,
    Madison, etc) but not vis versa. I think that's what makes naming a
    little boy so hard for me.

    Here's the "total" list so far. I've printed this out for my husband
    but haven't gotten a response back yet. We'll probably name him the
    day he's born but I really would like a name now so we can call him
    that and think more of him as a little person...

    Bailey Matt Richardson
    Lucas (Luke) Matt Richardson
    Arden Matt Richardson
    Axel Matt Richardson
    Nolan Matt Richardson
    Colby Matt Richardson
    Coleman (Cole) Matt Richardson
    Tanner Matt Richardson
    Keegan Matt Richardson
    Keane Matt Richardson
    Delaney (Del) Matt Richardson
    Delavan (Del) Matt Richardson (I do like this better)
    Creighton (Cray) Matt Richardson
    Grant Matt Richardson
    Hadley Matt Richardson
    Hayden Matt Richardson
    Hunter Matt Richardson
    Rylan (Ry) Matt Richardson
    Parker Matt Richardson
    Peyton Matt Richardson
    Gillian (Gil) Matt Richardson

    Quite a long list, but some I definitely like more than others and I
    admit, some sound too girlish (Bailey and Hunter) but I put them in
    anyway.

    I really appreciate the suggestions - now I just need the same help
    from my husband.

| 960.9 | Some R-names... | AMCUCS::MEHRING |  | Tue Aug 30 1994 13:45 | 15 |
| | What a great list! Definitely some uncommon names in there! Funny, but I really
liked Hunter (doesn't seem girl-ish to me, although Bailey and Gillian do -
probably because I know a little girl named Baily and Gillian seems close to
Jillian to me) and was surprised you think of it as one of the more feminine
names!
I thought of a few more if you don't mind R-R:
	Ryder Matt Richardson
	Riley Matt Richardson
	Rydel (Del or Ry) Matt Richardson
I hope your husband can find something he likes on that list! Keep us posted...

| 960.10 | thoughts on Nolan | BIGQ::SORRELLS | Oh sure, another exciting day | Fri Sep 02 1994 08:58 | 7 |
| | I think Nolan Richardson is a college basketball coach who was especially
    successful in the 80's at Arkansas and perhaps Kentucky. He may
    retire by the time your boy is 10 or 15, but he could have a good year
    and the name become a household word. This would influence my
    decision slightly even though I like the name.

| 960.11 | Dallas Matt Richardson | ODIXIE::RICHARDSON | Are we there yet?? | Tue Sep 06 1994 14:42 | 15 |
| | Thanks for the info on Nolan. I do like it, but I want him to have his
    "own" name. My husband really wants a "D" name since he's a David, but
    we don't want a Jr., so we're now thinking of Dallas or Dane. We went
    over his family's geneology records yesterday and found that Dallas is
    a family name (his father's father as well as some ancestors farther
    back). He's really set on Dallas now and I like it but I don't love
    it. I want a somewhat sophisticated sounding name and I'm just not
    totally sold on Dallas yet but I am seriously considering it. What I
    have found out is that it's better if we make the decision ourselves
    instead of involve family in the decision making process. We'll never
    all agree...

    (Although I do still want "fellow noters" opinions)

| 960.12 | More D-names for boys... | AMCUCS::MEHRING |  | Tue Sep 06 1994 18:04 | 29 |
| | Okay, well - for D-names, here are some more options:
	Derek
	Dexter
	Devin
	Dale
	Drew
	Drake
	Dean
	Dana
	Dirk
	Delano
	Dustin
	Darrell
	Darren
	Duke
	Declan (Irish)
	Douglas
	Dalton
	Davis
	Dawson
	Dominic
	Duane
	Driscoll
	Duncan

But, I like Dane Richardson. Dallas is okay, too, especially since there is
a family connection. I heard of a friend's friend naming her son Houston, which
I think sounds pretty silly, but these days, nothing should surprise me...

| 960.16 | this is gonna be tough | ODIXIE::RICHARDSON | Are we there yet?? | Thu Sep 08 1994 16:13 | 7 |
| | That is interesting. I'm really dreading telling my husband that I
    don't really like Dallas. He likes so few names and he REALLY likes
    that one. I'll just have to time it "just right". I'll just keep
    putting off telling him and maybe he will eventually decide that he
    doesn't like it - wishful thinking.

 |
| 960.17 | Compromise? | AMCUCS::MEHRING |  | Thu Sep 08 1994 18:23 | 21 |
| | Why not use Dallas as the middle name instead of Matt? I thought your husband's
name Matt, not David (inferred from the basenote until reading .12)! Hmmmm,
so I'm assuming it's David Matt - and he wants the son to be D_____ Matt also?
You could let him decide which one he has stronger feelings about (Matt or
Dallas) and then you pick the other name.
I still agree with the others here that Dane Robinson sounds great (even if
Dane & Matt aren't ideally balanced...). It's tough to meet every criteria,
isn't it?
The wait & see approach may work so you can both toss the options around for
awhile. I know I finally convinced my husband to buy-into my boys' name
choice about 2 weeks before the baby arrived! Funny though, it was a girl,
which made it even easier since we both agreed on that name (leftover from
when my son was born...).
Another lesson in negotiation I suppose.
You have lots of time to work on him ;-)

| 960.18 | Dylan Matt Richardson | ODIXIE::RICHARDSON | Are we there yet?? | Mon Oct 31 1994 16:40 | 13 |
| | Well - It's almost November now and I think we finally have come up
    with a name.

    Dylan Matt Richardson

    Dylan (pronounced Dillon) is kind of "trendy" but it's a great name
    nevertheless. It's one that we can both agree on (even though we do
    realize that backwards, it's Matt Dylan - but that's something he can
    live with).

    thanks for all the help - and I guess we'll see if it sticks for the
    next 2 months. I can't wait til he's here (but I guess I'll have to,
    huh?).
