939.0. "Names to go with Woods" by WNRWHO::WOODS () Wed Apr 06 1994 09:13

I need some help. My husband and I are expecting our first child in the
next few weeks (due date is April 25th). We are big procrastinators and
have just started discussing names. We want something a little different
since we have a common last name -- Woods. I would like to use my maiden
name -- Kleismit -- as a middle name, however, Doug thinks that the child
will be teased for having a weird middle name but I don't know of too many
times a middle name is used. My full name is Karen Elizabeth, my husband's
is Douglas Alan. So far this is what we have come up with:

	Boy		Girl
        ---		----
	Ian		Alexandra
        Colin		Cassandra
	Connor		Kirsten
 	Jared		Allana

I know there were a couple more but I can't remember them! Suggestions
anyone?

939.1My thoughts on unusual middle names.DEMON::ANCTILWed Apr 06 1994 16:3921
    Hi,

    My opinion on the middle name issue is that I noticed my middle name
    alot when I got married. It showed up on our wedding invitations,
    and the priest called us by our first and middle name all through the
    ceremony. I didn't mind it cause my middle name is pretty common,
    (Marie), and I like it. If my middle name was a name that I was not
    comfortable with, I would probably not like to hear it throughout the
    ceremony and I probably wouldn't have framed my wedding invitation
    either.

    You should pick a middle name that flows easily and sounds nice with
    the child's first name. From my experience, the whole first year of
    my daughter's life, I have called her by her first and middle name
    together. I like the way it sounds together and she seems to listen
    to me more when I say both names together.

    Good luck!!

939.2Colin Woods sounds good to me.TECRUS::BWATERSThu Apr 07 1994 13:1210
    I like Colin Douglas Woods. Ian Woods sounds nice too.
    Girls names are more difficult for me. I like your selection,
    and probably tend toward the 2 syllable names you've listed,
    such as Kirsten.

    I too would probably choose a middle name more because of how
    it sounded with the first and last. But in the end, I doubt it
    matters all that much since it is used infrequently.

939.3Middle names with meaningMRKTNG::PRTZEL::MURRYIs it 1996 yet?!Thu Apr 07 1994 14:3912
For me personally, my middle name is rarely used by me, and so I think I
would choose middle names for my children because they mean something-like a
relative's name, but I won't be too concerned if they don't flow as well as
just the first and last name. To me, the first name should be the most
important as far as uniqueness and flow with the last name, but then we can
use the middle name to honor special people in our lives. I don't really
like the thought of just using a middle name just for the heck of it. My
middle name is Marie and although it's common, it also has special meaning
since it is derived from Mary and that is my mother's name and that is why
she used it.

939.4Katrina Jane WoodIOSG::EVANSGThu May 12 1994 07:3313
    Well, my married name is Wood and we called our little girl Katrina
    Jane. In our case, the first name (at least) had to be pronouceable
    (sp?) in both English and German (I am German and my parents don't
    speak a word of English). Katrina seemed to fit the bill and I chose
    Jane just because it seemed to 'flow' better.

    Now of course, our daughter is almost three years old and calls herself
    Nina......

939.5Connor NathanielWRAFLC::WOODSWed Jun 22 1994 08:537
    Thought I would let you know that Connor Nathaniel Woods was born on
    May 5th. My doctor induced labor at 1:00pm and Connor arrived at
    5:45pm weighing 7 pounds and 20 inches long.

    We decided on Alexandra Michelle (or Nicole) for a girl.
