925.0. "Boy?? Makrianis" by WONDER::MAKRIANIS (Patty) Mon Jan 24 1994 11:34

    Well, I finally decided to ask you guys for some help. I'm due in
    3 1/2 weeks (Feb 17th). I am having the hardest time coming up with
    a boys name. I've got quite a few girls names picked out that I like
    so I'm no too worried there.

    Some background: My husband is half Greek and the family has used the
    same 3 names (George, Peter, Nicolas) which we want to stay away from
    for first names. I would like to use George as a middle name since that
    is my husband's name, but that is not a necessity. Our daughter's name
    is Anna Sophia. If we have a girl I've got lots of names I like: Julia,
    Laura, Amelia, Lydia, as you can see I like girls names that end in 'a'
    to go with Makrianis. Now for boys names, the only thing my husband and
    I can agree on is that we want a strong name, not trendy, and as my
    husband put it: will look good on a business card or office sign when
    he is grown. Some ideas I've thrown his way that he hasn't completely
    said no to are:

    		Samuel George Makrianis
    		William George Makrianis (my husband is George William)
    		Curtis George Makrianis
    		Keith William Makrianis
    		Colin ?? Makrianis

    Other names he has said a definite "no" to are Stephan, Alan, Kevin,
    Leonard, Michael, you name it!!!!

    So any help would be greatly appreciated. I'm getting desperate.

925.1Gregory (my favorite!) or Craig???CNTROL::STOLICNYMon Jan 24 1994 15:3515

    Of the names you've suggested, I like William and Samuel the
    best. I don't care for the rhyme of Curtis Makrianis and
    Colin is somewhat of an ethnic mismatch with Makrianis (Irish
    Gaelic with Greek) - you and your husband's preferences are
    definitely more important than mine however 8^)!! A couple of
    other names that fit your criteria of strong and not trendy
    that spring to mind are Craig and Greg (or Gregory).

    Craig William or Greg William
    Gregory George or Gregory John

    Good luck!

925.2Thanks for the laugh...WONDER::MAKRIANISPattyMon Jan 24 1994 15:5910

    Carol,
    	Thanks for the input. I had to laugh about your comment on Colin.
    	I am Irish (half anyways) and I told my husband that if we had a
    	boy that looked the least bit Irish he would be called Colin. You
    	see, my daughter, Anna Sophia Makrianis, is as ethnic looking as
    	she sounds. The spitting image of my husband. I like both Craig and
    	Greg. Will have to see what the husband says.

925.3you're right...if he's fair, Colin might be a great choice!CNTROL::STOLICNYMon Jan 24 1994 16:155

    Oops, I guess in your case, Colin might be a perfect choice!!
    Then again, Patrick (after his mother) might be nice, too!

925.4Gotta love Colin...AMCUCS::MEHRINGMon Jan 24 1994 16:5425
Patty,

Well, I love the name Colin (obviously, as the mother of Collin Richard - and
he is blonde/blue-eyed so it fits him to a "T"!) and I think it actually
sounds pretty good with George and Makrianis. Here are a few other ideas for
you to toss around:

	Wesley George Makrianis
	Derek George Makrianis
	Paul George Makrianis
	Edward George Makrianis
	Dillon George Makrianis (possibly on the trendy side, but I like it)
	Andrew/Drew Colin Makrianis
	Kent William Makrianis
	Chad Michael Makrianis (this was my 1st choice for our 2nd, but had a
				girl...)

I also like the Greg suggestion, although Gregory would make for quite a few
syllables in total... I kind of like the one or two-syllable first names with
your last name, but the single-syllable names sound better with a 2-syllable
middle name.

Good luck - getting close for you!

925.5How about....WONDER::MAKRIANISPattyThu Feb 03 1994 13:1918

    Well, I went through a smallish baby name book and made up a new list.
    I didn't have one name from the list I particularly liked over another,
    I was just hoping to get my husband to help narrow it down. Well, I
    haven't shown him the list yet, but as I went over it late yesterday
    afternoon with my sister, she picked up on one of the names and now I
    love it!!!

    			Kyle William Makrianis

    Now to approach my husband and hope he doesn't veto it. I really like
    it. It sounds sounds/flows nicely, it's not super common (please don't
    tell me you know 50 million little boys named Kyle), it's short ( a
    definite consideration with the last name. So what do you all think???

    BTW, my last day is tomorrow.

    Kyle has become a popular name in Scotland recently, and I must agree
    William goes well with it.
