    Christina,

I really like Laura Phelan. For what it's worth, there are MANY
Amandas and Nicoles in my daughter's first grade class.

I do like Laura Phelan. It does have a nice ring to it, doesn't it?

For a boy we are still keen on James Edward or Patrick Edward, with
James being out in front for now. We found some old records in the
house and my husband's grandfather was Patrick Francis Phelan and his
Grandmother was Johanna O'Callahan Phelan. Johanna is now on our
    list of girl's names also.

Another thing, my husband was adopted and he just found his old birth
information too and found out things for the VERY FIRST time! His mom
never would talk about his adoption so he never knew how much he
weighed at birth or any of the other info. He knows now and is quite
excited about finding all this info on himself. His name before
adoption was listed as Ricky! Now we are thinking
about that also!!! Richard Edward Phelan!

Other family names were Johanna, Josephine, Joseph, John Joseph,
     (my son is Eric Joseph).

Well, my last day here before maternity leave is February 11th. Each
day, I am getting more and more excited as it gets closer to
    my baby's birth!

I think Richard would be a lovely choice, given your
	new found information!

We must not be far apart, I leave February 15th!

922.4Rikki?AMCUCS::MEHRINGThu Jan 13 1994 14:459
Or, how about Rikki Phelan for a girl? I think it's kind of cute. Of
the names listed in your other note, I (still) like James Edward and
for girls, Tara, Lindsay, or Kimberly. I agree, there are LOTS of
Amandas and Nicoles out there (both lovely names though). Depends on
what you want - how uncommon do you prefer, etc.

Best of luck as the time winds down...

Cori, I do believe Rikki is an excepted nickname for Erika.

    Cori,

Rikki is a GREAT idea for a girl! Though, my son's name is ERIC and
maybe anything Rick is to close to his name??? Eric and Richard, or
Eric and Rikki. My son is ALWAYS called Eric, no one has ever even
tried to nickname him Ricky or anything, as Eric is just as simple to
say. Erica is definately out, so no need to worry about that Monica.
IF we did go with Rikki for a girl, maybe Richelle would be nice -
calling her Richelle mainly and once in awhile Rikki. Hummmmm,
Eric and Richelle. FUnny how my husband picked out my son's name ERIC
    								       ---
He was very set on the name from the very beginning, liking Erica for a
girl, but deciding he liked Eric for a boy so much we wouldn't use it up
by naming my son Erica if he were a girl. And save it in case we had a
son. (which of course we did!!) so we have our wonderful Eric Joseph!
He has his Dad's initials EJP (Edward John Phelan) and Joseph was my
    husband's father's middle name.

Maybe somewhere in my husband's subconsious he remembered the name
RICky, and that's why he was so determined with the name Eric. Hummm
He was called that until he was adopted at 15 months old and his name
was changed to Edward (Eddy). ((I couldn't image my son's reaction if
suddenly at 15 months old all new people started called him Tommy or
    something. WOW>!

OH well, thanks all for these ideas, and PLEASE feel free to send
    any other ideas....

Rikki is cute; I'm not so keen on Richelle. If your in-laws are still
alive and the adoption and name change are sensitive issues for them,
you may want to think twice about using Richard or a variation of it.

Christina,

I guess Rikki and Eric ARE kind of close...maybe it would work for a middle
name though (I forget if you had one picked yet). I faced a similar dilemma
when I expected my second and liked the name Lindsay - didn't seem to sound
right with my son's name (Collin). But, it's not like they (the kids) will
*always* be under the same roof, either, so if you like a name enough, then
go with it.

I also like the name Johanna Phelan from your husband's grandmother's name.
It's sounds good, it's pretty and uncommon - a great combination - not to
mention having historical significance...

Good luck as the search continues,
-Cori

    Tracy,

My husband's father died 20 years ago and his mother has Alzhemiers
(spelling) and has been in a nursing home for 5 years and her memory is
not there anymore, so I don't believe there would be any sensetive
feelings about the name. Though I don't see any reason for negativity
anyway, I mean it was a name that belong to my husband and his parents
only changed it to a name that held more meaning to them. No one did
anything wrong, it was just a preference.

I don't think we will be using it anyway, as it is to close to my son's
name Eric and my husband doesn't really care for Richelle either. So
    we will see!!!

Cori, if we have a son, I would like his middle name to be Edward,
after my husband. (My son Eric has his Dad's initials, E.J.P.) so far,
we really like James Edward Phelan and of course a girl..... well,
that's the issue: Have received some great ideas, we do like Johanna
still and I also like Diana and Lindsay, and lots of others.....

Yet we have not pinned one down yet. Oh we shall see!!

    Right!!

    Thanks all!!!!

    Christina
922.11Another round of suggestions...AMCUCS::MEHRINGFri Jan 21 1994 14:0322
Christina,

Well, a few more ideas occurred to me today for your girl's choice...

Callie Samantha Phelan	(from O'Callahan and same C.S. initials)
	Elise Johanna Phelan	(another E.J.P.!)
	Tara Michelle Phelan
	Heather Rikki Phelan
Lindsay Lee Phelan	(from Shirley May)
	 or Lindsay May Phelan
	Johanna Mary Phelan
	Mariel Heather Phelan

Any luck narrowing the field to 2 or 3 top choices? I had 3 first names
for each sex (and 2 middle names each) picked out by about 8 months. It
was then easier to focus and toss the short list around in my head to
see which combinations really appealed to me most.

Best of luck as the big day approaches! I'm sure after giving this task
so much thought you will come up with a great name! Enjoy it...

922.13Good luck!AMCUCS::MEHRINGTue Feb 01 1994 13:2615
Christina,

I'm sure you're *really* getting excited now, with just one week left before
your leave - hey, if you have the baby early, and it's a girl, you could use
Valerie (~Valentine) - HA HA :-) However, don't be too surprised if you do
go beyond your due date... I noticed you were counting down the days; but
chances are you won't deliver *on* your exact due date. I do hope it's as
close as possible since I know the waiting is the toughest (well, a different
kind of "tough" than delivery ;-) part.

Do let us know once your new family member arrives!

Rest up, read a lot, go to the movies, pamper yourself (while you can!),
-Cori
(who was 9 days late with #1 and 5 days late with #2....)

    HI Cori,

Thanks for the tips. I do count the days to my due date because I use
that as my guideline. After that, it's only a guess.. Yes, I will
probally be late. (I've thought all along that I will be closer to
March 11th.) My 1st child (Eric) was 9 days late. So, I sort of
    expect this little one sometime
in the beginning of March. BUT you never know! My cousin was 9 days
late with her 1st, 7 days "early" with her 2nd and 11 days late with her
third. SO who knows! Just need patience - the waiting doesn't really
    bother me though.

I am looking forward to spending some extra time with my son Eric while
waiting for the new baby to arrive. He is 17 1/2 months old now and it
will be so wonderful to be at home with him during the day rather than
being here at work. So, that's how I will be pampering myself. I am
really happy about that as he is a wonderful baby boy! I am lucky to have
such a sweetheart and can only pray that
the next baby is as Healthy, Happy and such a GEM! (as my husband
    kiddingly says,
"if not, then at least we have one to compromise)! heeeeee!

Sooo, Feb. or March - it doesn't matter. - I only hope and pray that
all goes well for my new little one and that he or she enters this world
    healthy and happy.

    - Christina
