910.0. "Commisisoner of Social Security is a real Dorcas!" by PIET09::TRUDEAU () Fri Oct 01 1993 10:29

My wife and I are expecting out third child and so are
in the process of picking names. NO! We are NOT
considering Dorcas! It's just that I notice names all
the time now and this particular name caught my eye.
It was on a document on our counter from the Social
Security Administration. The commissioner's name is
Dorcas Hardy. I was wondering if anyone out there
knows the origin of this name? Just curious.

    This is an older name (not in fashion for some time);
    I've seen it as both a male and female first name.
    I really should remember to bring in those baby name books,
    shouldn't I....

Dorcas is listed in the Girls' section of my mini-book as meaning
"Gazelle" and is of Greek origin.

I shudder to think of the butchering job kids would do on this name....
