908.0. "TIANA" by GIDDAY::LEEW () Mon Sep 27 1993 23:13

    Can anyone tell me where the name TIANA originated from. I would also
    appreciate the meaning of the name.

    Hi,
    I don't know for certain, but Tiana looks like an abbreviated Christiana
    to me. Where Christiana comes from, I don't know either - maybe Greek.
    Again, Christiana looks like a form of Christine - usually means
    Christian or Christ like I think.

    It is pretty - Tiana - never heard of it before.

    It looks like an abbreviation of Tatiana to me.

    (It's a Russian word meaning perfume.) Just kidding. :-)

I know someone named Taina (prononced tIna, long 'i') and her mother was from
Tahiti so I imagine that is the origin of that particular spelling and
pronounciation.
