| I really love Marissa - even better since it uses both grandmothers
names. Shanine is very different, and I wouldn't use it for a
first name. But it might work as a middle name -
Marissa Shanine Pomeroy!
Marissa Brittany Pomeroy,is okay but the "Y" might be too much (although
middle names are seldom used). It could be adjusted to Bridget -
Marissa Bridget Pomeroy.
Marissa Stephanie Pomeroy has too many "s"s. Maybe Stephanie Bridget
or Bridget Stephanie.

853.4 | Names ending in 'a' | RTOEU::KRICKS | | Wed Jan 20 1993 03:40 | 18 |
| I think a name ending in 'a' sounds best with your last name. Marissa
is a great idea. Here are a few other suggestions:
Laura Pomeroy
Lydia Pomeroy
Kara Pomeroy
Melissa Pomeroy
Melinda Pomeroy
Melenie Pomeroy (I know this doesn't end in 'a' but like
the name!)
Anna Pomeroy
Victoria Pomeroy
Sabina Pomeroy
Just to name a few! What are the other names in your family?
Cheers,

| My son's name is Donald, my daughter's name is Susan. My parent's
names are Richard and Mary and his parent's names are Richard and
Theresa. My husband's sister's name is Maureen, my brothers name
is Robert.
My father suggested a combo of my brother's and his sister's...
MOBOB! What a nut! He was just being a wise-guy.
I really like the names, Sabrina, Breanna, Brittany, Maresa, etc.
But every time I mention one to my husband, he automatically says
"no", without even thinking about it! ERRHH!
Thanks for all the help!
Keep them coming!
Thanks for all the help!

853.7 | Rachel Marissa Pomeroy | KYOA::CHANG | | Thu Jan 21 1993 11:03 | 11 |
| Hi to both Parents,
With Donald and Susan the names for your son and daughter, how
about a name that would match up with them as well as honor
all 4 grandparents - Rachel Marissa! Okay, so I stretched the
Richard's to Rachel, but you already came up with Marissa for
the 2 grandmothers.
Just a thought.

853.8 | | WHEEL::POMEROY | | Thu Jan 21 1993 11:50 | 10 |
| Hi Chris,
Thanks. There's something about the name Rachel that I don't
like. I don't know why.
I have a feeling that we will NEVER agree on a girl's name until
the baby is born and IF it's a girl, we will HAVE to agree.
Hence, it MUST be a boy!
Thanks for all the help!

853.9 | Seeking "dad"'s input... | AMCUCS::MEHRING | | Thu Jan 21 1993 13:14 | 26 |
| RE: .6 - Perhaps "hubbie" can explain his rationale (the thoughts that
occur in that second or two before saying "No") - i.e. "too long", "too
strange" "reminds me of someone I used to know..." It can at least help
to understand what to avoid and possibly steer you in the right direction.
I figure you can't be ALL that tough since you came up with Shanine, right?
RE: .4 - I really like the sound of Melinda Pomeroy (maybe Rikki for a
middle name after both grandfathers?) and I think it goes well with Donald
and Susan. I think something uncommon but not too unusual or oddly spelled
goes best with those two names (just my opinion, however).
Others (some mentioned by others) that I like are:
Meredith (combo of Mary & Theresa)
Marlee (form of Mary)
Monique (is Pomeroy of French origin? English? ?)
Markena (a bit different; nickname Markey)
Brette (simpler variation of Brittany, Breanna...)
Alicia (sounds pretty; uncommon; not hard to spell)
Sara (strong & classic, to match Susan)
Caroline (ditto)
So, what is your latest list of contenders?
Good luck in the search...

I think it's a great idea if Dad (and Mom) can figure out why a name
doesn't appeal. I have heard reasons like: too common, too uncommon,
too short, too long, too feminine, doesn't match with the others. Are
these among your criteria?
By the way, since all this discussion is about a girl's name, do you
have a firm agreement on a boy's name? What is it?
A few more names to ponder:
Rebecca
Amanda
Christine
Leah
Lauren
Jill

| Hi. Unfortunately, daddy's shift ends at 2:45. He'll have to
reply tomorrow.
Yes, he have already agreed on a boys name, JONATHAN MICHAEL.
I also like Ashley.
We already have a Christine, Melissa, Shawna and a few others in the
family.
I think the name that we finally do decide on, will probably just
POP out at us!
Thanks for all the input!

853.12 | REBUTAL II | ASABET::POMEROY | Footprints on the Dashboard upside down | Fri Jan 22 1993 09:34 | 56 |
| Well I am back with Rebutal Part II the Movie:
**********************************************
To add some additional info not seen in Part I:
o I am of Irish/Polish descent
o I like names that are not common. This stems from the fact that
when my parents grew up and when I grew up, it seems that religion
played a big part in the way people chose names. They were Saint
names, ie Kevin, Michael, Mary , Theresa.....You get the picture.
I like names that are not seen as much or names that are completely
different.
o This is my first child, (Donald and Susan are from my wifes first
marriage) and I want something that is special, something that tweeks
my senses alittle. Donald was named after her ex's brother who passed
away and Susan was a name that one of the parents liked....I don't like
naming children after someone or because the parents like the name.
I also hate, yes I mean hate, Juniors or III's. To me that is the
lazymans way to do things.
RE: .9 & .10 - My rationale is that if it doesn't touch me the right way
then i don't like it or if the name reminds me of something else.
For example: The name Brittany reminds me of a dog (Brittany spaniel).
The name Shanine hit me one night while watching TV. I have never
heard it before or have I seen it in any books. It is a sorta spin-off
of Shannon (a name I like anyway). And it's different. As for too
common, not too common, too short, too long, I usually only dislike
common names. Alot of people say that a name should be picked that
falls into the "amount of syllables". I stray away from this.
I like the following names:
Shannon
Stephanie
Shanine
Sara
Lezah
*************************************************************************
** Also alittle dig at my wife is, she also says NO right away after I **
** say a name. **
*************************************************************************
Again this is a first for me and I want something special, something on
the unique side, something that is not used very often. First come
only once.
Thanks for all the input anad look for REBUTAL Part III the movies
coming to theaters and notesfile this winter in an area near you!!!

853.13 | I see... | AMCUCS::MEHRING | | Fri Jan 22 1993 13:51 | 24 |
| Kevin,
Well, that explains a lot... It kind of surprises me that your boy's
choice is Jonathan Michael, given what you've said about uniqueness... but
that's certainly your perrogative and hey - if you've both agreed on it,
that's the important thing. I'm just saying that we noters were only
trying to come up with names based on the choices you (Peggy) already made, so
perhaps that's why they seemed too common...
Anyway, I like all the names on your current list. I think Shanine sounds
a little like Janine to me (unless I'm saying it wrong), but it's still
very pretty. She would likely end up having to spell it for everyone, but
this is true of MANY names, even seemingly ordinary ones, so I wouldn't
let that keep me from using it.
Since you said Irish/Polish, that made me think of one of my old favorites:
Shea (or Shay). Or a few more ideas:
Dania Selina Erica Bailey
Kayla Melina Madison Ashlynn
Kelsey Sharisse Valerie Alexa
Shelby Carley Sheridan Chloe
I still do like Maresa too... -- good luck!

Well, I look forward to the III edition. Number 2 was interesting.
I did find another name for you. Holly. If it feels okay, then
I'd offer Hailey, Molly, and Sally for consideration, too. In my
opinion, I really like Holly - which instantly reminds me of
Christmas and happiness - and Hailey - which reminds me of Hailey
Mills. She was a delightful, fun-filled English actress as a
child, always doing exciting things.

do a simple screenplay:
RE .13
I want to thanks you and all the noters in here for some terrific
input. The names you all have entered give us more to think about.
As for the name Shanine, yes it is pronounced similar to Janine. The
Name Jonathan Michael does fall into the catagory of common and it is
breaking a small boundry I have set. The name Jonathan we chose
because my favorite aunt lost a child at 4 months during her pregnacy.
We both thought it would be a nice gesture.
It seems though that since we can't figure out something that we both
like or agree on that it will be a boy....
RE .14
The next movie will probably be out this week. When I get tired,
I get creative......
Stay tuned to the "Same BAT channel, Same BAT time..."

We are expecting our second child, and can't come up with a girls name that
goes well with a last name that begins with "P" and has 3 syllables --
guess we are in the same boat.
When I read your note, I immediately thought of Leah (Lee ah). What do
you think? If you like it, I may request your help too!
good luck

| RE .18
The two from that list that stike me the most are Natalia and Fiona.
I like the name Fiona because back in college I was the Lighting
Designer and engineer for a play called "BRIGADOON". It took place
in the Highlands of Scotland where 2 hunters from NY encountered a town
calld Brigadoon that showed up only once every 100 years. One of the
characters names was Fiona....But my wife just doesn't like the name.
Thanks for all the input...It is being put to good use.

Well the kids and I talked about it in the car this morning and we're
starting to like the name Shannon (one of the names daddy likes).
Although we couldn't figure out a middle name to go with it!
To my S.O.... who said I didn't like the name Fiona? Although,
I don't really think it goes well with Pomeroy!
I still especially like the names, Maresa or Sharisse!
What happened to Rebuttal, Part III?
