Me again. About the middle name... We like Elizabeth. My two closest friends are named Lisa and Beth, so I was considering spelling Elizabeth with an S as in Elisabeth. Get it? E Lisa Beth. Kind of corny, I know... Anyway, I have seen it spelled both ways in my babynames books, but there is no explanation or history of the spellings. I would appreciate any information you may have on this name. I don't want to spell it an odd way, without knowing that it is a legitimate way to spell Elizabeth. I'm not too worried about my daughter having to spell it for everyone since it will only be her middle name. - Tammy

I like Elisabeth. My daughter's middle name is Elisabeth. I prefer to pronounce her name with a softer sound rather than the stronger Z sound. Just like E-lisa-beth - not E-liz-a-beth. I did find one meaning from a babyname book long ago, simply that Elisabeth was an old French spelling. Her first name was also listed as an old French spelling - Courtenay Elisabeth. I know people will have trouble with it - but they have trouble with mine and I think my name is rather simple - Rose Marie, first name two words. Simple enough? Nope, I get Rosemary, Rose-marie, Rose-mary, Rose M. etc, anything and everything but Rose Marie. Rose Marie | |||||

As another option, you could just use Lisbeth for the middle name. That's my sister-in-law's name (although she goes by Betsy!). I think it's pretty and clearly doesn't use a 'z' sound. By the way, what's the first name you are thinking of using? Good luck, -Cori |
