826.0. "Girls with last name of Flatley" by AWASH::SFLATLEY () Wed Sep 02 1992 15:21

We are expecting our second child in December. We didn't have any
problem naming our first daughter, seems we never even got out of
"A" when we began listing names we liked for either a girl or a boy.

This time we know we are having a girl, suprise is not something my
husband is fond of, and have gotten a start at some names. I thought
I'd get some input on the names we've come up with so far and ask
    for suggestions.

I am fond of names that are a bit unusual and my husband is much more
atracted to names that are not unusual. Makes agreeing very difficult.

    Dad - Robert John Flatley
    Mom - Sharon Ann Flatley
    Daughter - Ashley Ann Flatley

Some ideas we've had so far:

Marisa (I wanted to name a boy Marick - Marisa is my way of turning
that into an approriate girls name)
    Brenna
    Meridith
    Courtney

We gave Ashley my middle name, Ann. I don't feel any need to do that
again, unless Ann seems to be the best fit with the first name. I'm
looking at ways to avoid making a nickname out of the initials since
neither my husband or I are fond of nicknames.

One more consideration. My husband is of Irish decent and seems to
    lean toward Irish names.

    Looking forward to your thoughts!

P.S. When we were expecting Ashley we were advised by friends to keep
our choices for names to ourselves until after the baby was born.
According to our friends, people are less likely to respond unfavorably
to a name once it has already been bestowed. We followed that advice
with Ashley, but this time I'm really open to input and ideas.

Congratulations. I really like Marisa Flatley. It seems to match
    well with Ashley, too.

For the other 3 names, Courtney Flatley doesn't sound good together
in my opinion, but the other two sound good. How about Marisa Colleen
Flatley. That would cover all bases! (re: initials and Irish). You
can also use Marisa Meridith Flatley. It would be similar to Ashley
    Ann.

    Good luck,
    Chris

How about Mariel? I think Marisa sounds more Italian than Irish. I
do like Meredith and Brenna though. I think something feminine sounds
best with Flatley... and the name Grace occurred to me as a middle
name option (although not with all of the below).

    Other possibilities:

    Ariel Flatley
    Danielle Flatley
    Nicole Flatley
    Lauren Flatley
    Amanda Flatley
    Erin Flatley
    Molly Flatley
    Denise Flatley
    Lydia Flatley
    Monica Flatley

    Good luck,
    -Cori

If you do go with "Marisa", beware there are at least two
pronunciations: ma-ree-sa and ma-ri-sa. (I think the former
is the Italian spelling, and the middle syllable seems to
be stressed more in it.) Spelled "Marissa", you have only one
    pronunciation: ma-ri-sa.

The latin derivation of Marissa is "of the sea". I beieve
Marisa is a variant of Mary--does anyone have an Italian
    babynames book to check that??
