Hi,
I don't have any children at this time, and I'm not expecting at this time
either, however, my husband and I are starting to plan our family. I'm so
thrilled about the idea of having children that I've started picking out names.
Both my husband and I were very close to our late grandmothers. I would like
to use their names if I ever have a daughter. Unfortunately, I'm not getting
alot of support on the subject. His grandmothers name was Sara and that's OK,
but mine was Josephine. That's the sticky part. If I had my way I'd choose
the name Josephine Sara McPartlan. My grandmother hated her name and everyone
called her Jo. Everyone knew she hated it, and would probably throw a fit if
I gave it to my child, but to me it's quite an honor to her.
I've thought about maybe picking a derivative of it, but I'm not really
sure what's out there - Maybe Josi, Joey or Justine?? Does anyone have any
opinions or suggestions?
BTW, if we have a boy I'd half name it after my husband (John) and call him
John Dillon (or Dylan) McPartlan.
Thanks for your comments!

If your grandmother went by Jo, you could look for girls names starting
with Jo. That way you could honor your grandmother with the name she
preferred:
Joan
Joanne
Joleen
Jody
Joy
Joyce
Jocelyn

| I really like the sound of Jocelyn Sara - and it's similar enough to
Josephine for the purpose of honoring the namesak, but updated a bit.
Also, John Dillon (or Dylan) sounds cool!
You'll find your preferences will change over time - especially when
you have to consider all of your husband's name-connotations...
Never hurts to think ahead... good luck!

| I was also thinking that if you want to keep Josephine, you can
reverse the names: Sara Josephine. That sounds very well together.
