819.1 | A-E-I-O-U... | KYOA::CHANG | | Mon Aug 24 1992 17:40 | 25 |
| Hi,
As I read your note and wanting the initials to spell out something,
the first middle name I thought of was Oliver - Travis Oliver Monger -
TOM.
Other names - Travis Arthur (TAM)
Travis Edward (TEM)
Travis Isaac (TIM)
Travis Oliver (TOM)
Travis Ulysses(TUM-sorry I can't think of another U name)
If you go with Michelle - Michelle Anne (MAM)
Michelle Erin (MEM)
Michelle Irene (MIM)
Michelle Olivia (MOM-probably not good idea)
Michelle Ursala (MUM- ditto)
Of course there are lots of combinations just by running through the
vowels like above for any other name starting with a consonant.
It's a fun approach to pick names.
Good luck,
Chris

819.2 | more names for baby monger | COMET::MONGER | | Wed Aug 26 1992 13:17 | 46 |
| Chris,
Thanks for the reply, I'll see what hubby thinks, but so far none of
the suggestions "feel right" to me. I don't have any preferences on
the name's initials spelling something, that was his idea!! I just
want something that sounds nice with Monger. Travis was the only
other name we both agreed on last time and we both still like it, so
therefore the only name on the list so far. He also liked Jacob the
last time, but I don't care much for Jake which I'm sure it would get
shortened to. I like lots of names both for boys and girls, I'll list
some of them below and see if I can't get some more help on this one.
Also, Michelle is a name that has been lingering in my head for a long
time as one of my favorites but it's not definite either. It doesn't
seem to matter if the girls initials spell something, just the boys.
My initials are YMM, Von is short for Yvonne and seems to suit me much
better. My cohorts here at work shortened it many years ago and it
stuck...I'm sure glad, I never did care much for Yvonne!
Anyways, some other names I like:
Boys Girls
---- -----
Benjamin Kaley
Matthew Amy
Bryce Jennifer
Steven Heather
Colin Shaina ?? not sure on this one anymore
Joshua Shannon
Keith Kylie
Kenneth (Ken) Ashley
Tyler Kirsten
Joshua Kristen
There's more, but I don't have my list here at work with me, these are
ones I can think of off the top of my head.
Just a note, my hubby is a truck driver/furniture mover, so we don't
get to talk about this a lot...it's not a popular conversation piece
over the phone for some reason, so it'll be a couple of weeks before I
get to run suggestions by him. Please keep them coming, I'm feeling
like we should have this down to just a few contenders now and we're
really just beginning, I wonder what that means?? I wasn't this
pre-occupied with naming the baby the first time around.
Thanks again,
Von

819.3 | Lots to choose from... | AMCUCS::MEHRING | | Wed Aug 26 1992 16:19 | 47 |
| Von,
A few comments on your input to date... Do you mind if the two names of
your children "rhyme" or at least have the same ending sound (i.e. Justin
and Steven, Colin, Kirsten, Shannon)? I assume not since these are on
your list, but it's something to think about. Personally, I like the
ones that sound complementary, yet distinct (tough to find those!).
I think Travis Monger sounds good, although I wouldn't necessarily describe
Travis as "strong" as you mentioned in your base note as a preference.
The only one on your list that strikes me that way is Ken, but it's not
my favorite with Monger... I do like Bryce and Steven though. Not too
keen on the double -er endings of Tyler Monger, etc. (just my opinion).
I think Auburn is okay as a middle name, but a little odd for a first
name (besides, what if she's blonde?) For girls, I like those ending in
an "ee" or "a" sound the best...
Some other names that occurred to me as sounding good:
Boys:
Troy Steven Monger (TSM)
Ray Peter Monger (RPM)
Richard (Rick) Paul Monger (RPM)
or Richard Travis Monger (RTM)
Eric Michael Monger (EMM)
Daniel Travis Monger (DTM)
Bryan Adam Monger (BAM)
Girls:
Karley (or Carley) Dana Monger (KDM or CDM)
Casey Jill Monger (CJM)
Rebecca Inez Monger (RIM)
Michelle Rae Monger (MRM)
(nickname could be Chelle, Chelley, or even Chelsey)
Juliette Auburn Monger (JAM2)
Lindsay Von Monger (LVM)
Valerie Jean Monger (VJM)
Audrey Jeanne Monger (AJM)
Allison Chelsey Monger (ACM)
Hillary Jane Monger (HJM)
Good luck! I can understand your focus on the names and I'm not even
in n*eed* of any...

an M. last name...)

819.4 | great choices | COMET::MONGER | | Thu Aug 27 1992 11:30 | 28 |
| Cori,
What a great choice of names you came up with...I knew this would be a
good idea! I hadn't even thought of the things you pointed out...the
same ending sound as Justin, Kirsten I really don't like when saying
them together. Also the double -er endings, you're right, they just
don't sound good together. Thanks!
I had to get a kick out of JAM2, that was great, though I'm not sure if
I'm keen on Juliette just yet! The only one of the boys names you
suggested I would hesitate with is Richard. I've known so many that
got shortened to Dick, which I despise (no offense to any Dick's out
there, it's a personal thing). I do like the nickname Rick though, so
that's a tough one. I think I would just change the names around and
have a Travis Richard, that sounds good (IMO).
You're really great at this, all the names do sound good with Monger!
I also agree with your comment about Auburn...Justin has blonde hair
now, even though when he was born it was black. I think as he grows
older it will be the same color as his daddy's...brown with some hints
of blonde and red...when he's out in the sun. There is a possibility I
could end up with an auburn haired child as well though, as that is the
color of my own. I used to hate it, but now that it's becoming more
popular I don't mind it...maybe it's just because I grew up!
Anyway, thanks again for the great suggestions, keep them coming...

819.5 | | PRMS00::TLIGHTON | Redskins - 1991 NFL Champions | Thu Aug 27 1992 13:28 | 15 |
| Von,
I wouldn't worry too much about Richard being shortened to Dick. I've
known several Richards and they (or their parents) had chosen their own
prefered nickname (or lack of one). I know Richard, Dick, Richie, and Rick and
wouldn't consider calling any of them anything but those names. They are all
quite different and each seems to fit. Richard is a journalist, Dick owns his
own A/C and Heating company, Richie was a good guy who I've lost track of
recently and Rick is a PR Director. Occupations aside, their personalities fit
the names even better. One of the good things about the name Richard is the
abundance of nicknames you can choose from. As far as boys names go, the only
other one that I can think of that is in the same catagory is William.
Good Luck...Isn't this fun!?!

819.6 | nicknames | COMET::MONGER | | Thu Aug 27 1992 15:37 | 21 |
| Tom,
Yes, this is great fun...I just wish I could get Bryan more involved!
He say's "we've got plenty of time, what's the rush?" I don't know if
it's the hormones kicking in or that I'm just excited about naming
another baby, but I've sure been thinking about this alot lately!
What I really like about this time around is this file...it's really
interesting and fun to get other peoples ideas! It's great to have a
"third" party that can give you hints on some of the names not working
together or whatever...wish I had known about it when I had Justin, but
I think he ended up with the perfect name for him anyway!
I can see your point about Richard and choosing your own nickname...out
of curiosity, is that a "vote" for Richard on your part?? Anybody know
how you get "Dick" out of Richard anyway, that one's had me stumped for
years???
Thanks for the note...

819.7 | Never too early for name-hunting... | AMCUCS::MEHRING | | Thu Aug 27 1992 16:45 | 23 |
| I agree that Richard makes a better middle name (I went through your
exact same logic - the nickname paranoia - then used it as a middle name
after my father). By the way, my father's family and my mother calls him
"Richard" (or "'Chard" when yelled from a distance ;-) but his business
associates/friends mostly call him "Dick". I think it was more common in
his generation and not so slang, but kids these days can be cruel...
Anyway, I think Travis is more "parallel" to Justin than the more common
names on the list. I was just thinking that RAM would be neat initials.
Same with JAM2 - it would be cute to have 2 J-names: Justin and Jenna,
but then what if you have a 3rd? Another J? Sometimes that can be TOO
cutesy...
My husband was the same way about the "we have plenty of time to think
of a name", but I, too, started thinking of it early. But, in the end
(at the hospital) when we had it narrowed down to 2 names, he sure had an
opinion *then* -- in fact, I preferred the other name!
A couple more ideas:
Cody Cassidy
Blake Jade
Lukas Hayley
Reed Shawn(a)

819.8 | Bryan's ready to really discuss names now | COMET::MONGER | | Fri Aug 28 1992 11:46 | 17 |
| Hi Everyone,
Just a quick update...I talked to Bryan last night and couldn't believe
it when he said "we need to come up with names for this young-un real
soon"...guess he's reading my mind! What great timing for having
entered this note so I can pass all the suggestions by him when he gets
home, hopefully for the Labor Day weekend.
Keep them coming, I'd love to have a whole stack of these great
suggestions to go through with him...I'm so excited that he's now ready
to really get this part going. I'm one of those that started making
lists of names I liked when I was a teenager...boy that was a while
ago!
Have fun,
Von

819.9 | GEM Gregory E. Monger | RTOEU::KRICKS | There is no place like home.... | Tue Sep 01 1992 05:18 | 20 |
| Hi,
How about Gregory Edward Monger GEM ????? or
Geoffrey Edward Monger GEM ?????
You mentioned that you preferred strong names and Greg and Geoff in my
opinion are strong sounding and not overly popular. I am not overly
thrilled with the middle name Edward but thought it would be neat to
have something that started with 'E' so you could get the initials
GEM!!!
For girls names:
Alison Monger
Jessica Monger
Lauren Monger
My mind is drawing a blank !!!
Cheers,
Kimberly

819.11 | still undecided | COMET::MONGER | | Tue Nov 03 1992 16:35 | 26 |
| Well, six weeks left and still undecided. I was diagnosed with
Gestational Diabetes 6 weeks ago and my doctor will not let me
go past Dec. 15. It's nice to know that sometime between now
and 6 weeks from today there will be a new little Monger in our
family.
Names we are currently contemplating are:
Girls Boys
----- ----
Alyssa Travis (I love, hubby not so sure)
Caitlyn Eric
Kelly Keith
Michelle Leigh
No middle names really decided, any help you can offer would be greatly
appreciated.
Mom still suspects it will be a boy...must be the reason we are having
such a hard time coming up with boys names this time. It seemed so
easy the first time around. Girls seemed easy this time, I just need
help with middle names. I like Alyssa Michelle, but don't have any
ideas for Caitlyn or Kelly.
Thanks again,
Von

819.12 | some middle name options... | AMCUCS::MEHRING | | Tue Nov 03 1992 19:19 | 23 |
| Von,
Nice to hear your updated list (funny how it changes over time, huh?).
Here are a few middle-name ideas for you:
Girls Boys
----- ----
Alyssa Michelle Travis Michael
or Danielle or Richard
Caitlyn Jeanne Eric James
or Jessica or Steven
Kelly Diana Keith Andrew
or Amanda or Adam
Michelle Leigh Derek Jeffrey
or Erin or Bryan
I like all of these - hard to pick a front-runner - but I kind of lean
toward Alyssa or Kelly for girls and for some reason I really like
Derek Monger.
Good luck with the final weeks!

819.13 | thanks | COMET::MONGER | | Wed Nov 04 1992 10:41 | 21 |
| Thanks for the ideas, they're great, as was the last go round you came
up with! Unfortunately, Derek is out. I do like the sound of it, but
my hubby has a good friend with that name that has really rubbed me the
wrong way, so I just can't envision using it. I'm kinda of leaning
towards Alyssa or Caitlyn for a girl, but who knows with 6 weeks left
how that will change. Bryan suggested Kelly, so that one may win out
since we both do like it and I don't want him to feel like he has to
go with one of the names I suggested, unless he really likes it better.
I'm having a real hard time with boys names this time, although I like
all the names on the list, none of them just jump out at me as one I
definitely want to use...wonder what that means?
I'm getting incredibly excited and anxious! Although I love being
pregnant for the most part, I'm ready to meet this new little person
who will change our lives even more, and add so much love to our
already wonderful family.
Thanks again for the reply, I'll keep everyone posted as to what we
finally decide on...which at this rate could be when the baby is born!

That would be one real nice way to satisfy both of our likes. I'll
run it by my husband along with the suggestions Cori gave and see what
he says.

Any feelings on Jared Michael for a boy???
My first son's name is Justin Allen if that helps. Though they both
are J names I thought they sounded complimentary, your thoughts,
please?
Thanks,
