808.0. "Need a first name for Long" by BOOKIE::LONG () Mon Jul 20 1992 16:56

    Hello!

My husband Dana and I are expecting our first child in mid-December
and are having a difficult time deciding on a girl's name.

The boy's name is all set:

     Edward Michael (Long)

I love the name Leslie for a girl but am concerned that Leslie Long
might sound too much like one of Superman's girlfriends (Lois Lane).

Other names that my husband and I agree on are:

    Sara
    Emma
    Elizabeth
    Katherine

What do people think about "Leslie Long"?

    Other ideas? Comments? Suggestions?

    Thanks!

    Melinda Long

I don't think Leslie Long is a good combination. How about
    Sara Elizabeth Long?

I loved the name Leslie and gave it to my youngest. It is not an easy
name to wear, as we found out.
Leslie is shortened to Lessie which is short for Lesbian. She was in
the third grade when that started. It also is a male name, which is a
lot easier to deal with. The teachers wouldn't know whether to expect
a boy or a girl, and mail addressed to Mr. Leslie.
My daughter became a tomboy in self-defense. I remember the day she
gave a blck eye to the class bully on the school bus.

I've been reading this conference for awhile without much input. One
of the things I've noticed is how difficult it is paring several of the names
mentioned in this conference with a last name beginning with the letter L since
mine also does. I've also run into the problem even with a fairly simple name.
It seems that the last letters in many names become the first part of the last
name in pronuciation. It may just be the VA and MD accents around here, but
folks tend to run the two names together. I kind of like Leslie as a name, but
I think there's a few too many L's in there to suit me. I liked the earlier
suggestion of Sara Elizabeth though.

I tend to agree (L-L-L is a bit much)... but if you really like the L's
how about Lindsay Long (similar, but one less L)?

I like Sara Katherine better than Sara Elizabeth, just because I've
heard of *lots* of Sara Elizabeth's recently (both are pretty, though).

Actually, I like a longer first name to go with a short [Long? ;-)] last
name...

How about:
	 Samantha Jane Long
	 Victoria Kathleen Long
	 Stephanie Emma Long
	 Emily Sara Long
or maybe Sara Lisbeth Long ?

Good luck,
-Cori

    Re:.3

I seem to have the same problem with my first name, tho it ENDS
with and "L". I have always hated saying my first and last name
together....it just never flowed right, ya know??

As far as a name to go with Long, I think a long first name would
    	go better with it, too.

    		Samantha Long
    		Alisha Long
    		Alexandra Long
    		Stephanie Long

    	Have fun and good luck!!

Thanks for all your comments and suggestions! Funnily enough several
people suggested the name Samantha. My husband's niece is named
Samantha -- otherwise we would consider that name!!!

We're considering Leslie as a middle name but have decided not to use
    it as a first name.

    Thanks again.

Well, then how about Sabrina Leslie Long? It's a nice complement to
Samantha...or maybe one of these:

	Alexa or Alexandra
	Kimberly
	Cassandra
	Deanna
	Brittany
	Katrina
	Erica
	Hillary
	Jessica
808.8How about Rosanna Rosanna NEWOA::FAIRHOLM_CCheryl FairholmThu Jul 30 1992 12:221
Perhaps Rosanna might appeal.
