| In first grade I knew a girl named Joella - that was the only time I've
ever heard it.

I have known a Joelle. I have also known a Jolie (as in french for
pretty). I have no idea what it means, but it is a very pretty name.

| Joelle,
It's a very beautiful name - especially in the French pronouciation
(soft J almost like zsa zsa, and a rolling L). I chose it as my name
for one of my French classes. Not sure what it means, but all the
French words that are close to it have great meanings:
Joyau = jewel
Joyeu = joy; cheerful; merry
Jolie = pretty; nice
and Elle = she

| You had to re-name yourself for french class? I don't understand.
I too think it is a very nice name, although, having lived in
French Canada almost all my life, I cannot ever remember coming
across a Joelle. (reminds me more of a feminization of the name
"Joel")
