783.0. "Sarah, Alena..... now what ???" by ERFARE::SD (expletive deleted.....again.....!!!!mondays...) Tue Apr 14 1992 01:41

I will be a third time father shortly and we are trying to get some girls names
together.

We have boys names picked (just in case) but due to this fact it will probably
be a girl

We have two girls already:

Sarah Jane Davies	Sarah - grandmothers name
					Jane - mother's middle name

Alena J Davies Alena - a derivative of Hellan, Hellanna
						from the russian regions.
(my wife's line was a Czar
						  evading prince and family)
					J - as in J . We didn't find a good
middle name but felt that an
						  initial was needed. (same
						  initials as mom)

Alena also is a derivative of an Australian Aboriginal name meaning
	possum or water. 'Lena'

We now have to think up another set of girls names to suit.

My name is Shawn Andrew Davies SAD (great initals)
My wife's is Amanda Jane Davies AJD

Any suggestions?

    Hi Shawn,

To match with Sarah and Alena with a J middle name, how about:

    Laura Jean
    Barbara Jean
    Deidre Jolene
    Leah Janinee
    Marissa Jean
    Patricia Joan
    Rita Jean
    Tara Jean

Actually, there are many J middle names and most can be interchanged
with the above suggestions: Jean, Jolene, Janine, Jennifer, Joan,
    Jeanette, Joanne.

    How about :

Alexandria (sounds Anglo so it will go well with your last name and also
has russion hints to it! - if you like nicknames,
    		  Alex, or Sandy)
    Elisabeth
Christiane (pronounced like Christi + on + ya)
or the American way => Christine
    Madeline (Mattie for short!)
Lara (as in the song Lara's Theme from Doctor Zivogo (spelling?)
    Kathryn/Katherine/Katharine

    Cheers,
    Kimberly

783.3Stick with shorter names?CIVIC::FAHELAmalthea Celebras/Silver UnicornThu Apr 16 1992 10:1931
I disagree with most of the names in .2 - I think those names are too
long to "go" well with Sarah and Alana. Lara is a good choice (good
    name - lousy movie).

    For common names:

    Sandra
    Barbara
    Maria
    Laura/Lara
    Diana/Dyana
    Deanna
    Helena
    Paula
    Teresa/Theresa
    Gina
    Joanna
    Nina
    Anna

    For not so common names:
    Xandra (pronounced "Zandra")
    Tara
    Rhea
    Ida
    Maura
    Kara
    Kira/Khira
    Lena

    K.C.
783.4These can also be nick-named to sound different...AMCUCS::MEHRINGFri Apr 17 1992 14:4611
Personally, I wouldn't use Tara, because it sounds too
much like Sarah. If you want to keep the ending in 'a'
how about:

	Katya J. Davies
	Samantha J. Davies
	Angela J. Davies
Lexa J. Davies (maybe too similar to Alena tho)

Good luck with the name game...

Thanks for input. I had been meaning to respond but I kept testing my
procrastination techniques. They seemed to work except for one thing.

My wife gave birth to a 7lb 12oz baby boy today.

He will be named after my late father and my wifes father

    	Kenneth John Davies

It dosen't roll of the tonge like some names but it has a priceless
past and there aren't many Kens here in Australia.

again, many thanks for the support

It seems that we can't make up our minds but I think that the final name
    will be:

    	Kenneth Samuel John Davies

just to get some more vital family names in.

783.9Alena/AlainaWR2FOR::YACKLY_SHMon Jun 15 1992 18:214
Another spelling for Alena is Alaina (even more unusual).

My friends name is Alaina Marie.
