I have had two interpretations of my daughter's name told to me. A gentleman in the mall had told me his little girl's name is also Kayla and that it an American Indian name meaning "morning sun". My Nana tells me that it is a Galic name and it means "lovely". We chose this name because my husband wanted an Irish name and Meghan, Colleeen and Margaret just didn't thrill me. Does anyone know what the origin of the name Kayla is? Katrina

I had to ead your note twice. I have a friend in the states with the name of Katrina, and HER daughter's name is Kayla as well. Her mother is from England, and their family all named all the girls with "k"'s. NOt sure on the meaning, just always thought it was pretty!

My baby name book says Kayla is a modern version of Kathleen. It is derived from Greek meaning "PURE". I am due in May, and after many months of searching, my husband and I have decided that if we have a girl, her name will be Kayla Nicole Pitts. LeeAnne

Sorry, I looked it up again, and Kayla is a variation of Katherine, not Kathleen as I previously stated. L |
