My husband and I are expecting a child in about a week. We thought we had the names decided on, but then at the last minute we got cold feet, and thought of considering the following boy/girl names: Boy: Rhys (rhymes with peace) Jonathan Connor Benjamin Cameron Scott (The middle names are all family names, which we wanted to do.) Today we both really like Rhys, which is Welsh, but we're concerned that it might easily be regarded as a too-offbeat choice. Comments? Girl: Isobel Beatrice Devan Scott Hollace Jeanne (she'd probably be called Holly 99% of the time, but I have a thing about using nicknames as full names) (Again the middle names are family-derived.) The last name would be Patt. Any opinions? Thanks. Susan

I think both Connor and Cameron are nice and go well with the last name Patt. I don't care for Rhys at all. If I understand the pronounciation of the name, I wouldn't mind the spelling Reece but, for me, Rhys is a pretty big burden to saddle a child with. Just my humble opinion. Also, I think that you need a multi-syllable first name to balance the surname Patt. Hollace Jeanne is quite nice. There's someone in notes-land you just recently named her baby girl Hollis (I think that's the spelling) which was the first time I'd seen the name. I also like Devan (Devin, Devon), but since it is a name used in the US for both boys and girls, I'd recommend pairing it with a more feminine middle name, maybe Devan Jeanne. I like the idea of using family names for middle names. Good luck, Carol

Of course this is all IMO, but NONE of the first names listed would be ones that I would pick. To me, they are ALL a little too off beat. But if you both like Rhys...go for it (but I agree that a multi-syllable name would go better with Patt). K.C.

Just my opinion: I like Cameron Scott the best on your boy's name list. I have known one man named Reece (his spelling) and although I like the name, I agree with the other noters that a multi-syllable first name would sound better with Patt. How about Jonathan Rhys? On your girl's list, Isobel Beatrice is very unique and I like it. I also like Isobel Jeanne. Since I prefer more feminine names for girls, the others would not be my choice. Chris |
