710.0. "Name for baby Feit" by COGITO::FEIT (ALPHA played backwards is SATAN) Tue Jul 23 1991 17:19

We are expecting in October, and like almost everyone(at least it
seems that way) we are having trouble with names.

Helpful hints...

	My last name is pronounced like "fight"

	My full name is Andrew David Feit

	My wife's full name is Sarah Alice Hathaway-Feit

	We think it's a boy, but Ultrasounds can be
	tricky, so we want to be ready either way

So far...

	If it is a boy, we'd like to pick a name that begins
	with 'M', after my father(Marvin - not a name we love)

	We're thinking of Max, but Max Feit is short, and neither
	one of us is too strong on either Maxwell or Maximillion(sp?)

	We like Michael, but Mike Feit has a lot of "I" sounds

	Mark suffers from the same short name syndrome

	If it's a girl, we're really lost on names, so we're hoping
	the Ultrasound was right(or maybe one of you will save the
	day)

Thanks for any input,

Andy

710.1here's a few...TIPTOE::STOLICNYTue Jul 23 1991 17:3311

    One of my all-time favorite boys' names begins with "M" - Miles -
    but I know it's probably not very popular with most people.
    Other "M" names that might be worth considering are:

    Matthew, Marshall, Mason, Mitchell

    I think I like Matthew the best with your last name.

    Carol
710.2girls' namesTIPTOE::STOLICNYTue Jul 23 1991 17:3720

    As for girls...do you want to use the M as well? There's lots
    of options with girl's names. Personally, I think you need a
    2 or 3 syllable name (with no one syllable nicknames) for your
    short last name. Suggestions would be:

    Melody
    Melanie
    Melissa
    Marina
    Marie
    Marissa

    On second thought from my last note, Matthew Feit sounds good,
    but not sure I like Matt Feit. How about using Marvin or an
    "m" name for the middle name; still paying tribute to your
    father?

    If you do not like Marvin, but would still like something similar to
    your father's name, how about Martin ?

    Yoou also mention that you like Mark, but feel that it is too short
    with your surname. How about Marcus ?

710.4Switzerland suggestionsSHIRE::AEBISCHERWed Jul 24 1991 06:1717
    Hello from Switzerland,

    In fact the correct spelling is MAXIMILIAN, some of the names beginning
    with 'M' listed in other notes are great.

    My favorit is MAXIME (prounounced with a french accent Maxime FEIT does
    not sound too iiii...- but I don't know how to translate the MA in
    french sounding... XIME is to be pronounced XEM) which can also be
    written MAKSYM.

    I also like
    Merwin - Marshall (which is not at all a french sounding name)

    Best of luck..
    Sandrine

    Sandrine,

    One thing you learn when dealing with names is that there really
    aren't any "correct" spellings ... there are normal spellings, but
    they vary depending on where you are ... and whether you want to
    use them ... take the simple name Crystal ... I have seen
    Krystl, Crystl, Crystal, Chrystal, Krystal, Krystel. Who are we
    to say that any of those is incorrect ?

710.6Thanks for the input so far...COGITO::FEITChelmsford, just like it sounds...Mon Jul 29 1991 18:048
Some of the names were ones we hadn't thought of, and really like.

Girls names don't have to begin with M, so feel free to be really
creative...

Still mulling it over,

Andy

    How about Marvin Mitchell Feit? Only kidding!!! He does fight a good
    fight though!! Only kidding again %^)! Excuse me......

    Okay, I'm under control now!! Seriously though I love the name
    Mitchell. I guess because my older brother is named Mitchell Henry and
    he is one of the sweetest most gentle men I know.
    As for a girl how about:

    Giovan Irene Feit
    Mary Wilene Feit
    Zometa Catherine Feit (nickname Zoe)
    Rebecca Dyan Feit

    and I just went blank!!! I'm not surprised though. Will look in again
    when I can think.

    God bless,
    Trudy (who_is_not_a_Gertrude)!

710.8Max as a Middle Name?SANFAN::KAPLAN_AATue Jul 30 1991 23:487
    My brother is named for my grandfather "Max" Kaplan, but my parents
    used Max as his middle name... Joel Max. Joel isn't for any reason
    other than it sounds nice with Max.

    Aaron is a very nice name too. You might consider it as an option.

    Keep us posted on the results.
710.9"Morgan" FeitGUCCI::SCHLICKENMAIMon Aug 05 1991 13:304
    How about Morgan Feit? Then if your ultrasound is undecipherable you
    can name either boy or girl Morgan. I like Morgan for a boy.

710.10Martin Andrew or M. MitchellRAB::MEHRINGMon Sep 09 1991 14:1910
I like:

	Martin Andrew Feit (since the nickname also sounds good: Marty Feit)
  or	Martin Hathaway Feit (pays honor to your in-laws)
  or M. Mitchell Feit (pays honor to Marvin without spelling it out and
			    this way, the middle name will not likely be
			    abbreviated)

Good luck,
-Cori

I guess first impressions are lasting. We decided on:

Maxwell Benjamin Feit

Born Sept 30th, 6 lbs., 8 oz.

Thanks for your help,
