706.0. "Name for baby HERNDON" by ATLEAD::PSS_MGR (name) Wed Jul 10 1991 17:04

Well, I was thinking I should wait until I'm closer to my
due date (Jan 22) but I see other people are anxious to name
    their baby early, too....

So any suggestions for baby: Herndon....

    So far we like:

    	GIRL BOY

    Sara ________ Mitchell _______
    Michelle ________
    Brittany ________

As you can see, we're still not sure about middle names and
are having problems with a boy's name....I have always liked
SCOTT...but hubby grew up with a Scott Herndon and says no way...

With Herndon having a vowel sound to it, anything with a TH
in it tends to make you sould like you're lisping.....I'm not
into the too 'trendy' names....My name is Kristen and growing
up in the 60's-70's, no one ever pronounced my name right,
nevermind trying to spell it. (Of course now it's popular)

    Thanks for any suggestions.....Kristen Herndon

How about combining two of the girls names to one:
    	Sara Michelle Herndon

    For boys names:
    	Mitchell Eric Herndon
    	Mitchell Edward Herndon

    Chris

    Robert Mitchell Herndon
    Paul Mitchell Herndon
    Scott Mitchell Herndon

    Sara Faye Herndon
    Michele Lee Herndon

and I agree with .1 on
    Sara Michele Herndon

Congratulations and God's blessings on all,

I grew up with a Sara and Margaret Herndon.
Sara was Sara Lee - that sounds too much like
    the coffee cake doesn't it?

I like Michelle Herndon. Brittiany has too many
letters - it's a good first name for a short
last name. It is also becomming very popular.
I know 3 people who have chosen it so far this
    year.

Alexander Scott Herndon - Alex Herndon

    Good luck -

    Well, so far we like:

Girl - Sara Michelle (thanks .1) and are thinking about for a
    Boy - Mitchell David

But, do you think Mitchell is a good name...everytime I mention
it to someone they sort of have this look like 'Ugh!' or 'Well,
that's ok...' Does anyone know any Mitchells? (Mitch)? My
sister thinks that kids will make fun of him....

Any other ideas on boys names?

    thanks for the help....Kristen
706.5My brothers name is MitchellNYEM1::REISGod is my refugeMon Jul 22 1991 12:489
My older brothers name is Mitchell and no one ever made fun of him
except to call him Mitch Miller sometimes but who knows him nowadays?
We (the family), have always called him Mitchell except on the rare
occasion. He, IMHO, is very attractive and is a detective for the
Tampa police dept. in Fla. The only reason I can think of for people
making faces or giving you weird looks is because it really isn't a
common name. Of course I'm partial but I really like it.

706.6Great choices, Kristen!TIPTOE::STOLICNYTue Jul 23 1991 11:4016

    re: .4

I think both of your choices (Sara Michelle Herndon and Mitchell
David Herndon) are EXCELLENT! As far as the "ugh" goes, there's
really no accounting for taste in names (or anything else for that
matter!) and you will never make everyone happy. I think the
important thing is that both you and your spouse like the name
and work to build strong self-esteem in your child so that any
teasing he/she may receive won't bother them - kids will find a
way to tease about any name you select. I think Mitch(ell) is an
excellent choice for a boy and will serve him well from childhood
    to adulthood.

    JMHO,
    Carol

I have only known one Mitchell in my life, and he went by the
nickname, Mitch. He is a warm, sincere, kind, gentle man. He
is also smart and a hard worker. (Can you tell I am very impressed
by him!). I think it's a great name.

Thanks for all the support on Mitchell....I don't know why I
worry so much about what other people think, but it is nice
to know that there are several warm, sincere Mitchells out there.

    thanks agin, Kristen

(Will keep you posted once we know what the ultrasound says....
    hopefully!)
706.9I like the name MitchellSELL3::FAHELAmalthea Celebras/Silver UnicornWed Jul 24 1991 14:115
When I was growing up, my best friend had an older brother named
Mitchell. He was called either Mitch or Mitchell, and I remember him
    as an OK guy.
