Well, not that I go for the "retchedly feminine" or anything, but
I would have had absolutely no idea that Avery Frances would be a
girls' name if you didn't include the "for a girl". Personally,
I think Anne Bazemore sounds pretty good. If you'd like three
syllables, how about Andrea Frances Bazemore?
Andrew Luther Jack sounds nice, btw.

| I have only heard of Avery as a boy's name, never a girl's name.
And I agree with .1 that Anne Frances Bazemore sounds feminine
without being too frilly.
For additional names:
Marie Frances Bazemore
Katherine Frances Bazemore
Elizabeth Frances Bazemore
Anna Frances Bazemore
Paige Frances Bazemore
Olivia Frances Bazemore

| I have to agree with the comments on Avery, and to make matters worse,
remember the "Fritos" comic, Avery Schreiber?
My vote goes with Andrea Frances Bazemore!
And thanx for naming a cat after me! ;^) (see p_n)

695.4 | Edging toward Ann | DDIF::BAZEMORE | Barbara b. | Fri Jun 07 1991 23:01 | 19 |
| The only Avery I have known was the former Milford, NH selectman.
He was in my Aikido class and I was very impressed with his attitude
toward learning. Unfortunately his inquisitive ways brought his
life to an early end in a hang-gliding accident.
I do remember Avery Schreiber, but I'm betting that the up-coming
generation will not.
I saw in one of the recent naming books that Avery was gender neuteral,
although it is derived from Alfred. I'm still kind of partial to
Avery since it is a pretty name.
I might go with Ann to make life easier on the kid. Does anyone know
the meaning of the name? My grandmother is an Ann. I admire her
a lot, and I'm sure she would be tickled to have a great-grandchild
with the same name (no e at the end).

| Hi Barbara,
I'm afraid I have to agree with the others about Avery, but there are
some similar-sounding variations you might like -
Avis
Avia
Avril
Do any of these appeal to you ?

Avis reminds me of the car rental company. Avril seems a bit odd, but Avia
is kind of nice. Any idea what it means?

Avia....don't they make athletic shoes?? I like Avery better (you
know, it kind of grows on you?!) than any of those alternatives.

Does that mean Avia = airhead? or Avia = pilot? :-)

695.10 | This is GREAT news, Barbara! | EXIT26::MACDONALD_K | no unique hand plugs the dam | Wed Jun 12 1991 15:15 | 23 |
| Barbara,
Congratulations to both you and Marty. Been to the beaches in R.I.
yet? It's fun when you're pregnant! Anyway... I must interject
here and defend the name Avery. I know two people (personally)
with the name and they're BOTH women. Very nice ones, too, I might
add. And if anyone watches Murphy Brown - Colleen Dewhurst plays
her mother whose name is, you guessed it, Avery. Besides Avery
Schreiber, the only other man I can think of with the name is the
actor Avery Brooks... Actually, Avery is becoming a rather popular
name for a girl these days. Too bad, too. It runs the risk of
becoming too trendy. I like Avery very much...
Another suggestion... Howzabout adding an 'A' to Ann... Anna
Bazemore. Or maybe even throw an 'H' on either end to make Hannah???
Whatever you decide, I'm sure you'll have a wonderful time naming
your child. When I had my daughter, I decided when I saw her face
what her name would be.
Good luck,
Kathryn

| I'm glad to hear that there are real women out there named Avery. I
can't decide on a name for certain until I see the kid's face and temperment.
But at least now I feel more comfortable if I should choose Avery.
The possible trendiness of the name is a problem, but it isn't in the top
10 yet at least.
I've been dying to go to the beach, but we've been too busy making the
baby's crib and changing table to take a break. I hope we finish soon
so I can laze around like a beached whale and enjoy some peace and quiet
while I can ;-)

| I'll go against the majority here and tell you I, too, like the name Avery
for a girl. I only know one person by that name, and SHE's a very nice
person.
But I like Avery Ann or Ann Francis. Avery Francis is OK, but I don't think
it sounds as good as Avery Ann or Ann Francis, IMHO.

695.14 | Avery for a girl... | CSSE::BBROWN | | Fri Jun 21 1991 13:48 | 24 |
| Hi,
I really like the name Avery for a girl. It has a ring to it:
Avery - X - Bazemore. I'd like to add it to my list of baby name
possibilities for child number 2, when it happens.
I have a little (3yr old) girl whose name is Heather (I know, trendy)
Elyce Brown.
Here are a few names that I've been thinking about lately:
Alyssa Beth (potential confusion of "Elizabeth with a lisp")
April Collette (monogram would be aBc)
Chelsea Daine (Chelsea becomming very popular lately)
Paige Aileen
and only one boy name: Evan James
Good Luck!!
It's nice to have a list of name choices, but I agree, it all depends
on looking at that little face to decide on the name..

playmates already has that name.
Thanks for your support...

| Barbara Bazemore and Marty Jack are happy to announce the arrival
of their daughter, Avery Ann Frances Bazemore. She was born at
9:17 Sunday evening, June 23. She weighed in at 5 lbs 13 oz.
and measured 18 1/2 inches, although Marty claims it was 18 and 17/32.
Mom, Dad, and baby are all doing fine.
