685.0. "Need help with combinations for baby Mehring" by 4EVER::MEHRING () Thu May 16 1991 17:56

Well, with one week left of work before my leave, I guess it's about time to
open up the naming game to some outside opinions...I've been watching this
conference and have formulated a small list of contenders for our first child,
due in just a few weeks...

For girls, I need middle names for our top two choices:

Morgan _____ Mehring (I like Kelli or Dana for this, but am open)
Amanda _____ Mehring (I like Jade for this, but hubby thinks it
connotes "jaded", while I think of the stone)

For boys, we are less settled on first names but kind of have ideas for middle
names (Richard = my dad's name or Anders = my mom's maiden name). First names:

	Luke
Mitchell (maybe too "M-ey" with Mehring? Pronounced MARE-ING)
	Chad
	Shayne (maybe too Irish?)
	Jonathan (maybe too basic?)
	Reed
Richard (I'd like Rick/Ricky, but hubby isn't too keen on it)

My husband (Peter Arnold) is 100% German and I'm about half German and half
Irish/Scottish, so names that are obviously ethnically clashing, etc. are out.
We like names that are not common but not necessarily considered "unusual"
(i.e. I dislike strange spellings of names and "trendy" names like Ashley).

Other info:
Family names that are exempt are:
Michael, Stephen, Daniel, David, Andrew, Scott, Gregory
	Lauren, Lisa
Mothers' names are: Briggitte and Patricia

Thanks for the input, opinions, other suggestions... it's getting close now!!

685.3a few thoughts, great choices!CNTROL::STOLICNYFri May 17 1991 10:4131

    Cori,

I was wondering when you were going to enter your own name
selections (based on some of your notes in HOME_WORK, I think).
You have selected some beautiful names; some of which are
    personal favorites.

Amanda is my favorite of your two girls' choices. If hubby isn't
fond of Jade, how about Jane or June (esp. if the baby arrives in
June!). Since Morgan can be a male or a female name, how about
something definitely feminine for a middle name? Actually, I kind of
like the sounds of Morgan Amanda, to use both of your first
name choices. Another possibility for a first name or a middle
name for Morgan - that is not common, but not unusual - is Amber.

    Morgan Amber Mehring
    Amber Dana Mehring
    Amanda Jane Mehring

For boys, I prefer your choices of Luke, Chad, and Jonathan. Some of
the other names would make good middle names for those 3 names, like:

    Jonathan Reed Mehring
    Luke Anders Mehring
    Chad Richard Mehring

Good luck, you should have no problems selecting a name since you
always give such good advice to others!!

685.4Sorry, can't use Amber...4EVER::MEHRINGFri May 17 1991 16:2031
Carol,

Yep, our construction project is supposed to wind up this weekend, then there's
the "finish work" (sanding/painting/tiling) that my husband will have to do
after the plaster dries for several days... So, I'm trying hard to postpone my
"nesting" desires for another couple weeks (which is cutting it VERY close).
I just hope I'm not early!!!

Anyway, a couple comments on your suggestions - Amber is my brother's soon-to-be
ex-wife, and for reasons too numerous to list, I would never use that name (I
used to think it sounded like a playboy centerfold name until I met this one
and now it's even worse!!!). I liked Jane but Peter thought it was too "plain"
(yep, a punster), and I've never been too keen on month names (also have an
ex-aunt named April...). I agree that if we use Morgan, the middle name should
be definitely feminine -- Morgan Amanda isn't bad, but may be a few too many
syllables...

It just occurred to me that I could shorten my mother's name and use:

Morgan Tricia Mehring (I like the "a" endings with Mehring)

As for boys, I'm leaning towards

	Luke Richard Mehring or
	Chad Anders Mehring

although interchanging the middle names would work too (I thought the two
names with "ch" in them might not sound as good together though).

Thanks for the input,
-Cori
685.5good reason!CNTROL::STOLICNYFri May 17 1991 16:295

Fair enough on Amber, just thought you might like it since it is
    a "jewel", like Jade....

    Good luck, Carol
685.6It's a BOY!!RAB::MEHRINGTue Sep 03 1991 14:3518
Well, I was 12 days late and had a (very) healthy baby boy -- and used a name
that came up in the last 2 weeks while I was re-scanning the baby name book...
(the middle name is after my father)

	Collin Richard Mehring
	June 21, 1991 6pm
	9 lbs. 14 oz.
	22 1/2" long

He takes after his father in size (6'6", 215 lbs, size 13 shoes...) and
temperment (type B), and has been sleeping through the night since day 6!!
So, the trade-off for the intense labor is that his big stomach and "mature"
systems have allowed his parents to get a decent amount of much-needed sleep
each night...

Thanks to all for the input,
-Cori

Congratulations - now scoot on over to PARENTING and we can hear some
of the stories that accompany little ones.....

685.9I'm there...RAB::MEHRINGMon Sep 30 1991 17:208
I've been *meaning* to start getting involved in PARENTING notes, but there
seems to be so much less time now that "parenting" requires leaving to get
to day care at a specific time, etc.... Sounds like I better check it out, huh?

At least these BABYNAMES notes are guaranteed to be quick reads!

Thanks for the kick I needed...
