679.0. "Name for "Chou" baby" by SOLVIT::ENG () Thu May 09 1991 10:43

    My best friend will be having a baby the first week of June. She and
    her husband have not selected a name yet and has asked for your help.
    They do not know the sex and the last name is Chou, pronounced as
    Chu (long "u" sound). They have two boys now, Ryan and Michael.
    (She's hoping for a girl, otherwise she says it'll be "my three sons")

    Any recommendations for a Chinese baby would be appreciated. They
    are at a total loss for names and time is ticking away.

    Thanks,

    Mary

    With a one syllable last name, I'd recommend a multisyllable first
    name.  How about:

    Amanda Chou
    Nancy Chou
    Amy Chou
    Emily Chou
    Lauren Chou
    Linda Chou

    Chris Chang

    I agree with .1, multi-syllables is the way to go. Here are some other
    ideas:

    Rebecca Chou <--- this is my favorite!
    Allison Chou (or Alison or Alyson)
    Rachel Chou
    Catherine Chou
    Karen Chou
    Paula Chou

    Lots of possibilities!

679.3Great names!SOLVIT::ENGThu May 09 1991 15:087
    This is great! The parents are out in Arizona, so I'll be sure to call
    them tonite. Thanks for the suggestions. Any boy names would be
    appreciated also.

    Thanks,

    Mary
679.4Nathan? Brandon?CNTROL::STOLICNYThu May 09 1991 15:5915
    I've thought of a few more.

    For a girl, Melissa or Alyssa, both sound good with Chou.

    For a boy, kind of in keeping with the "style" and popularity
    of Ryan and Michael, how about?:

    Jason
    Justin
    Brandon/Brendon
    Derek
    Nathan

    Carol

    Alexander (or Alex) would also be nice...

    My sister is married to a Chinese man, and their last name is Chang.
    They named their son "Jonathan", which I think sounds really nice
    with a one syllable name...

    Jonathan Chang sounds nice, as would Jonathan Chou, but beware
    of the nickname Jon. I don't think Jon Chou sounds good at
    all!

    My friends had a healthy baby girl on May 23rd. They named her
    Brittany and everyone is elated.

    My friends would like to thank all of you for your help. They said
    "it's so nice to have friends" and all of you are great friends of
    Nancy, Rick, Ryan, Michael and Brittany.

    Thanks again,
