I have a Lithuanian Mother-in-law with the name Selma. I have never asked her of its "meaning". She named her daughter Wilma, which I think is unusual as well.

Selma is Celtic meaning "the fair" or "fair one". It was usually given to children that were *felt* to become above average in their looks. Wilma comes from the German name Wilhelmina meaning "guardian." rhonda. |
