For a girl, how about Lauren Jessica?

Twins, what fun! I gather that you do not know the sex of the
babies so need to pick 2 names for each sex just in case??
I'd be interested in hearing more about the Jewish naming custom
if you'd be willing. For example, will you be following the first
letter of a deceased person's name tradition for each of your babies -
both male and female? Can you honor the same deceased person more
than once? Must you select names of Hebrew origin? I hope that I
don't offend by asking these questions, I'm just curious...
Now, onto your names, I like both Bradford James (prefer Brad over
Bradford) and Nicholas Peter. I don't particularly care for
Jessica Giunta because of the sing-song and alliteration *and*
because it the names don't seem to fit together (for example, I
wouldn't name a daughter Meaghan Stolicny ...).
If you like Nicholas for a boy, would you consider Nicole for a girl?
I've always liked Beth as a middle name for Lauren (or Laurel)
and think that Rachel would be a pretty first name choice, for
what its worth.

| Re .2
I'm not Jewish, but my husband's grandparents are, so we are following
that custom because he was always so close to his grandparents. From
what I know, it has to be a deceased person, and you only need to use
the first letter of their name. It doesn't matter if you name a boy or
girl after someone. The sexes don't have to match. And I believe you
can name as many children after the same person as you want to. Also,
the names do not have to have a Hebrew origin as far as I can tell.
Maybe someone who is Jewish can give more details. I think it's a nice
tradition.
The reason we like Bradford better than Brad is that neither one of us
likes nicknames as first names. We would call him Brad, but his formal
name would be Bradford (my husband likes Bradford better than Bradley,
and I don't really have a preference). That also leaves Beth out as a
middle name for a girl. I like Elizabeth and would want to use Beth as
a nickname, but Mark doesn't care for it.
Actually, since all the 'j' names for girls that we like seem to make
better first names than middle names, we've sort of got a naming
strategy picked out. If we have 2 boys, we're all set with the 'j'
name. If we have a boy and a girl, we'll go with Bradford James and
don't need a 'j' name for a girl. If we have 2 girls, our second
choice for the girl's name will have the 'j', and it might end up being
in the first name.
Does that help?

639.4 | some "j" names | CNTROL::STOLICNY | | Tue Jan 29 1991 12:48 | 18 |
| Cathy,
Thanks for the info. In talking to a friend who happens to be
Jewish, she mentioned one other naming "restriction"....in addition
to the custom of naming children after a deceased relative, I
guess it is not permitted to name a child after a living relative.
I thought that interesting since it is a seemingly common thing
to do outside the Jewish religion. I gather from your naming scheme
that you wish to follow custom for only one of the twins' names (i.e.
only use the grandfather's name/initial).
I do like Bradford as a formal name (also like the nickname potential
of BJ). I just meant that I preferred Brad for day-to-day usage. As
far as "j" girls names, here's a couple other ideas: Jordan, Janine,
Justine, Jeanne, Janette, the ever popular Jennifer, and Julia/Juliet.
Again, good luck!

639.6 | middle name to go with Abigail? | MEMIT::GIUNTA | | Fri Mar 15 1991 11:11 | 6 |
| We've added Abigail to our list of potential girls' names, but we're
having difficulty coming up with a middle name that goes well with it.
Any suggestions?
Thanks,

| I think we've finally got the names almost settled, and this is how it
works out:
2 boys -- Bradford James
Nicholas Peter (not too sure about Peter, might use Eric --
any suggestions for a middle name?)
boy & girl -- Bradford James
Jessica Rachel
2 girls -- Jessica Lauren
Rachel Lynn
How do these sound to you folks?
Thanks,
Cathy

Your choices all sound good to me. Nicholas and Bradford remind me
of Nicholas Bradford on "Eight is Enough"....(am I remembering that
show right?). I also like the sounds of Nicholas John, Nicholas
Ryan, and Nicholas Thomas.
Jessica Lauren and Rachel Lynn are very nice! I prefer Jessica Lauren
to Jessica Rachel; the latter just doesn't seem to flow as well.
Any special reason why you'd go with Jessica Rachel if you have both
a boy and a girl? By the way, do you have any intuition as to
the sex of the babies (sometimes expectant moms have dreams...) ?
Good luck!

| I like the boys names Bradford James and Nicholas Eric - Brad and Nick
sound good together.
I also prefer Jessica Lauren (To Jessica Rachel), but think Jessica
and Rachel sound good if you have two girls. The combination of
Rachel Lynn sounds like too many L's though. I think a middle name
that doesn't start with an L would sound better. How about:
Rachel Marie
Rachel Jocelyn
Rachel Abigail
Rachel Susan

| I like the name Nicholas, and I like the nickname Brad (but I never
even thought of Bradford...I thought of Bradley, or just Brad.)
And I think that Rachel Lynn just flows nicely, and Jessica Lauren is
nice.
Re: earlier...yup. The youngest on "8 is Enough" was Nicholas
Bradford. (Mary, David, Joanie, Susan, Nancy, Elizabeth, Tommy,
Nicholas - I THINK that is the order.) :^)

639.13 | Bradford James and Jessica Lauren | MEMIT::GIUNTA | | Sat May 11 1991 19:43 | 16 |
| Well, the twins decided to make their appearance 12 weeks early. We
had a daughter, Jessica Lauren who I delivered naturally, and a son,
Bradford James who I delivered by C-section. Jessica was 2 lbs 3 1/2
ounces, and Brad weighed in at 2 lbs 5 ounces. Both are still in the
hospital and progressing nicely, but we don't expect to have them home
for 10-12 weeks.
As it turns out, they are both named for great-grandparents. We used
the 'J' names after my husband's grandfather, and my grandfather's name
is James. And my grandmother's middle name was Laura, so that's why we
went with Lauren instead of Rachel as a middle name.
I'm sure glad we had the names all picked out so soon since they were
so early!
