617.0. "Girls/boys names for Johnson" by RTL::JOHNSON () Thu Dec 13 1990 15:57

I'm due in February and we still haven't found a boys or girls name to
go with Johnson. You'd think Johnson would be easy, but all the names
I like seem to end in the "en" or "on" sound -- for example, Lauren
Johnson. Does that sound like too much of the same sound? The
only name we've decided on is a boy's middle name of James (for my
father who is terminally ill). I like somewhat traditional names, but
my husband thinks we need something a little more uncommon to go with
such a common last name. (BTW, my name is Kathleen Joy and my husband
is Dana Logan.) Here are some names we've tossed around so far:

    BOYS: GIRLS:

Cameron James Johnson Alicia ? Johnson
Daniel James Johnson Lauren ? Johnson
Alec James Johnson Devin ? Johnson

Any other ideas are greatly appreciated!

    Hi Kathy!

Congratulations on the soon-to-be new addition to your family!
    That is very exciting!

I really like several of the names you are considering.

Here are a few suggestions that I am partial to:

    Boys Girls
    ---- -----
    Gregory James Maura Alyse
    Spencer James Cailin Nichelle
    Jordan James Mallory Alicia
    Devon James Alexa Rachelle

    Just a few to consider...

I think Laurel Johnson sounds real nice. Same idea as Lauren
except with a twist (and not near as popular!).

    Whaddaya think?

I like your choice of Cameron James although it may get shortened to
Cam. For your girls name I like Alicia the best because the others end
in the en sound. Maybe a name that ends in the e sound would go good
    with Johnson.

    Haley
    Chloe
    Hilary
    Phoebe

    Good luck and congratulations.

Thanks for the replies! I took them home to my husband. He's still
big on Cameron James...but I agree that he'll be called Cam or Cammy,
and I don't like either of those. He also really liked the suggestion
of Laurel, and Alicia Kate. I'm glad I'm not the only one who
thinks two -en or -on sounds together (like Lauren Johnson) are
    a bit much.

Any other ideas? (Thanks so far!)

617.6how about CJ for a nickname?CNTROL::STOLICNYTue Dec 18 1990 12:1410
Another nickname (which I happen to like very much (-8 ) for
Cameron James would be CJ. I have a business associate (male)
with this nickname. I also happen to like the nickname Cam
    (reminds me of Cam Neely).

I have always been partial to Rae for a girl's middle name and think
it sounds great with Alicia. My choices for middle names for
Laurel would be Beth or Elizabeth.

How about Christopher James Johnson? (I think that sounds wonderful,
and if you'd like you could call him CJ as a nickname!).

    Other ideas:

    Bennet James Johnson
    Lawrence James Johnson
    Clark James Johnson

(I've got a million of them!)...

617.8other nicknames for CameronSELECT::GIUNTAWed Dec 19 1990 08:575
I went to school with a Cameron, and no one ever shortened his name. He was
always called Cameron (and that's from grade school to today). His father was
also a Cameron, but his nicknames were Ron and Ronnie, so you don't have to
have Cam as a nickname. I think if you choose what you want the nickname to be,
and then start using it, other folks will follow suit.

Thanks everyone for your suggestions. We finally decided on:

Alicia Ann Johnson (Ann is my mother-in-law's name)

Daniel James Johnson (James is my father's name)

Thanks to K.C., who suggested Alicia Kate -- for some reason I was
stuck on two or three syllable middle names, so I never even thought
of using Ann! My husband decided he likes Daniel better than
Cameron, which makes me very glad because I do too. So much for
uncommon names though -- I think Daniel is in the top ten in 1989.
Alicia isn't all that common however.

It feels so good to be DECIDED! Only 3 1/2 weeks to go...
