574.1I agree 100%!STEREO::FAHELAmalthea CelebrasTue Aug 14 1990 11:1715
    Pauline, I agree!!

    I, myself, have an easy, common, "find a cup in a store" name. My
    husband, on the other hand, although his name isn't so uncommon, could
    not find anything with his name on it that didn't have little pink
    flowers or dolls on it (His name is Leigh).

    The names that we have chosen (WELL in advance; we agreed on names
    before we were even married) are nice, and easy to find; Deborah and
    Robert.

    BTW, my aunt's name is Pauline, but everyone calls her Doris. (Go
    figure!)

    Hi Pauline,

    I personnaly never thought about that but as it is for sure funny,
    it also is very interesting....thank you for the hint, I will remember
    your opinion when choosing a name for my children...By the way,
    loo at note 580 and help me there...

    Bye now					Pascal
574.3My son has a common nameFSOA::DHURLEYBeing a mom is fun!Tue Sep 04 1990 15:4711
    I thought about that quite a bit while I was pregnant. My name was
    always easy to find, but my sister Shari could never find her name. I
    wanted to name my child something different, but not too weird. I
    ended up naming my son Shane. He's five weeks old and since he's been
    born, I've run into 3 other children with the name Shane. Also, the
    day he was born, my mother came to the hospital with a plaque for him
    that says "Shane's Room" and my sister brought him one of those street
    signs that says "Shane Blvd.". I guess his name is a little more
    common than I thought.

574.4it never mattered to me26523::STHILAIREthe element of surpriseMon Sep 10 1990 15:3210
    I was never able to find my name (Lorna) on anything either
    and my mother (Vera) usually couldn't, but we thought it was just
    further evidence that we had uncommon names which we liked. My
    daughter (Melissa) had no trouble finding her name but that's just a
    coincidence. It wouldn't keep me from naming a child an unusual name
    that I liked. (Unusual spellings are hard to find - my niece, Tami,
    has trouble finding that spelling.)

574.5A different way of looking at itGEMVAX::WARRENThu Nov 01 1990 16:5211
    When I was growing up, my name (Tracy) was never on names bracelets or
    toy license plates either. (Most female Tracy's came along about a
    decade--or more--after me.)

    Now, I get upset when I hear of someone using my daughters' names
    (Caileigh and Paige). I keep checking the "personalized" merchandise
    in stores and figure, as long as their names don't show up there, they
    aren't "too" popular!
