571.1 | OOOOOOPPPS! should go with 536.0 | TRCA01::MLANG | Novice at almost everything | Wed Aug 08 1990 11:18 | 10 |
| Ooooops! I'll bet you are all wondering what this is doing here.
I was trying to REPLY to note 536 but instead of typing REPLY I
typed WRITE. As my name says above I am a novice and do not know
how to move this - moderators if possible, 571.0 should be a reply
to 536.
Sorry for the confusion!

| I personally like Abigail but not so much Abby. Especially with your
name of Lang it kind of reminds me of the Beatles " Abbey Lane" I think
all children go through a stage where they hate their name but
eventually come to like it.

Its "Penny Lane" and "Abbey Road", not "Abbey Lane".

| re: any connection to Beatles:
By the time Abby (or whatever her name will be) is old enough to be kidded,
the Beatles and especially that song will be almost 30 years old. Do you
guys think those kids will even know about it? My guess is probably not.
Parents maybe, but most of those probably won't want to make fun of her.
Just my opinion!

571.6 | Happy name | STEREO::FAHEL | Amalthea Celebras | Thu Aug 23 1990 13:04 | 8 |
| True, true. I have heard the Beatles referred to as "Paul McCartney's
old group" AND "George Harrison's old group". (Depending on who had an
album out at the time.)

P.S. The name Abbey sounds somewhat friendly to me. Maybe its because
of Dear Abbey?

571.7 | My answer to your question | NUTMEG::MACDONALD_K | | Thu Aug 23 1990 14:43 | 22 |
| How do you know what your child will think about his/her name???
You can't. All you can do is name your child what you feel is a
wonderful name and chances are, your child will feel the same way
too. After all, children often have the same tastes as their parents
because of how they're brought up. Of course, practically ALL kids
go through a phase of despising their own names. Sometimes it's
because they'd like to have the name that's "in" right now, or to
have the same name as the most popular kid in school... but in the
end, your child will know that you gave him/her the name that you
did because you love it and you love *him/her*. It's a tough thing -
naming your child - but when you hit the right one, you'll know it.
Sometimes parents come up with the name right after the baby is born.
I have some friends who had definately decided to name their son (knew
his sex prior to his birth) Kirk. Well, when he was born, both parents
looked at each other and said, "Nope. He doesn't look like a Kirk
at all. He looks like a Kyle." So that's what they named him.
Good luck,
Kathryn
P.S. I still like Abbey!
