I've always liked having the name Catherine, and I too am
called Katie for short. The only downfall to this name is
that often when I'm introduced to an older person, more
often than not they are inspired to sing that song K-K-K-KATIE!

My niece's name is Katherine, and most people call her Katie, but only
my husband and I are allowed to call her Katie Rose (Rose is her middle
name). We've always been very close, and she calls me her "twin aunt"
(she looks exactly like me when I was her age, and still look amazingly
alike)
I love the name, but won't use it because it wouldn't be fair to her,
or to my sister Cathy.
Such is life!
