| I definitely like Kelly for a girl. Neither of the boys' names are
ones I would pick, and I couldn't choose b/n them.

544.2 | Kelsey? | WR2FOR::BELINSKY_MA | | Fri Jun 22 1990 16:24 | 7 |
| I agree that Kelly would be very nice. I also like Larissa.
As for the boys names, I like the name Kelsey very much - but I
thought it was a girl's name. At least I know one girl with that
name.

| I consider "Aleta" and "Alida" to be "STRANGE" names, not unique, because I
have never heard of them and have no idea how to pronounce them.
Between Larissa and Kelly, I'd choose Larissa.
Between Reece and Kelsey, I'd pick Kelsey. I, too, thought Kelsey was a
girls name. Maybe it's both.
Personally, I'm not fond of any of the names on your list. I prefer more
common names such as Amanda, Christine, Matthew, etc. (I don't like them
BECAUSE they are common, it's just unfortunate that everyone else seems to
like them too.)
Good luck with your little one. Let us know what you choose!

| First, I have heard of Kelsey for a boys name AND a girls name. I
like it for both...it's a very nice name. I like it alot better
than Reece. As for your girls names, I like both Kelly and Larissa.
But if you are looking for uncommon, I would think Larissa is more
uncommon than Kelly.
My 1st choice votes are for Kelsey and Kelly!

544.5 | How about Ryan? | JAIMES::WHITCOMB | | Mon Jun 25 1990 14:29 | 8 |
| I vote for Larissa for a girl's name, although I like Kelly, too.
As far as the boys' names, I didn't really go nuts over either one.
I, like the preceeding voters, thought Kelsey was for a girl.
So, I guess my vote is just Larissa.

| I'd go wih Kelsey - but for a girl, even if it is a boys name as
well it has a very feminine sound.

| Just wanted to add....Does anyone watch CHEERS? I believe Frazier
Crane's real name is Kelsey. I don't know his last name, but I am
pretty certain his first name is Kelsey. I do like it for a boy...
or a girl!

It seems that our finalists are still changing daily. The replys
that we have gotten here, along with other peoples responces,
have helped alot.
Here's our latest choices (as of JUNE 26th):
GIRLS BOYS
----- ----
LARISSA CASEY
KELLY COREY
KELSIE
I still like KELSEY as a boys name, but the overwhelming majority
of people seem to think it's a girls name. Therefore, we have adopted
CASEY which we both like, sounds fairly close and is fairly unique.
I have seen CASEY as a girls name too but I HOPE that it is more
commonly know as a boys name...

544.9 | Boys or Girls!!! | GWYNED::YUKONSEC | | Tue Jun 26 1990 10:36 | 21 |
| re: .8 I know how you feel.
When my husband and I were trying to pick a name for our second baby,
we came up with Jordan for a girl...yes a girl. Of course, everyone
we knew said the same thing you are hearing...."That's not a girls
name, its a boys name"....Actually, its either! And if you could see
my little GIRL...JORDAN MICHELLE...you would say she looks like a
Jordan. As a matter of fact, we find it very hard to picture a boy
with this name now! It fits our daughter perfectly.
Alot of names are very versatile...Ryan (which was mentioned earlier)
is used for both girls and boys, sometimes they way it is spelled is
different though (Ryanne).
Anyway, just thought I would give you my 2 cents worth. I know how
people can influence your decision. But if you really like the name
for a boy, as you seem like you do....Go for it!
I do like Casey too! And yes, I have seen that name for both too!

544.11 | Reed | USWAV1::BRADISH | | Tue Jun 26 1990 12:40 | 3 |
| I didn't see anyone mention Reese. If you like that name, maybe you'll
like the name Reed/Reid. It is not common, not strange, and not
criminal, but close to Reese.

544.12 | CASEY, KELSEY and LARISSA | BIGBRO::KORDOSKY | | Tue Jun 26 1990 14:19 | 7 |

Rob,
I like CASEY, my cousin is named CASEY. I like KELSEY too, but like
everyone else I think of a girl when I hear it. I also like LARISSA. They
all sound good with Chapman. My 2 cents worth.

544.13 | LARISSA DEFINITELY!!!! | JETSAM::ESC_4 | | Wed Jun 27 1990 16:03 | 15 |
| I absoultely LOVE the name Larissa, it sounds lovely with Chapman. I
never really liked the name Kelly (Kelley?)
I would think that kids might tease a Reese (after the peanut butter
cup) I think that one should give their children beautiful and unique
names, but one's they can live with so that they won't reject them
later.
I know a ten year old boy named Ashley Justin. But, in about the third
grade, kids teased him because it was a sissy name. So, now even his
mom calls him Justin.
Susannah Muir Adam
(I learned to love my name, although no one ever gets it right the
first time!)

544.14 | I still like Alida | NUTMEG::MACDONALD_K | | Wed Jun 27 1990 16:19 | 15 |
| I see you've taken Alida off your list. Hmmm... I was going to
vote for that. It's my grandmother's name and she is an absolutely
wonderful person. BTW - I think it was Lori a few back who wondered
how it's pronounced... A-lee'-da. The accent is on the second
syllable. Anyway, I was seriously thinking about naming my daughter
that as my husband LOVES the nickname Ally, but figured that it would
get shortened to 'Ali' which I don't like as much, so we named her
Allyson instead. I've always liked that name, too. At any rate,
back to your poll here... I guess I'll vote for Kelsey for a boy
(BTW - it's Kelsey Grammer who plays Frazier on 'Cheers') and Larissa
for a girl. (or how about Lorissa??) Anyway, congratulations. You'll
love being a parent.

544.15 | more suggestions | WMOIS::LANZILOTTI | | Thu Jun 28 1990 11:54 | 11 |
| HI,
I like most of the names but I think Reed, as suggested previously, goes
very well with Chapman. Alissa and Alida (SP?) are very nice but you
could also try shortening Alida to Lida or Lita (Lita Chapman -
pronounced Leeta). I must admit my dislike of Casey and Corey. How
about a Scottish(I think) name - Kian Chapman - for a boy? Saw that
name in this notes file a way back, and I adore it! Ian Chapman
doesn't sound bad either. Good luck!
JLee
|
544.16 | Kelsey! | DOCTP::FARINA | | Thu Jun 28 1990 13:28 | 10 |
| FWIW, I like Kelsey and Casey for a boy, and they both sound good with
Chapman. Kelsie for a girl is good too. The only reason I'd steer
away from Larissa is potential grade school nicknames. Can't you just
hear some bully starting to call her Larry? Ugh! Or even worse, IMO,
Rissy. Yuck!
I think I'd go with Kelsey for either sex.
Susan
|
544.17 | Names more commonly girls' nowadays... | RIPPLE::JOHNSON_JO | | Fri Jun 29 1990 18:29 | 37 |
|
FWIW...
I believe names such as the following all started out being used
as names for males, then females:
Casey
Corey (shorter form of Corinne for a female)
Drew (originally short for Andrew maybe)
Kelsey
Kelly
Tracy (and then Tracie or Tracey if a girl)
Lynne
Lesley (or Leslie for a girl now)
Ashley
.
.
.
It may just be a coincidence, but you unerringly picked names
that are boy/girl, so it suggests to me
that that is a quality you are searching for. "Larissa"
is the only name so far on your list that is customarily
used with one sex only. Do you have a theory about prefering
a boy/girl name? Just curious.
Personally, I probably wouldn't pick the names you've
chosen, but that is only one person's opinion. I am disappointed
when friends may comment negatively about choices we are
considering, but realize that it is only their opinion
and may be influenced by someone they know with the name
who has questionable behavior, values, etc. Moral is,
pick something YOU like. But thanks for giving us the chance
to read, reflect, and consider our decision before we
make it for our child.
Good luck.

544.20 | Kelsey for a GIRL! | OBSESS::PHELAN | | Thu Jul 05 1990 14:42 | 7 |
| I have a niece named Kelsey Lynn. I think the name is very pretty and
unique for a girl. Though I don't like it for a boy. Would you
consider the name for a girl? For boys: well, Reece is definatly
different. It sort of grows on you. but, I don't know about the
sound of Reece with your last name. It sort of sounds like Ree when
it's followed by Chapman.

| Congratulations Rob! Casey Ryan is a GREAT name!! I replyed in
reference to Kelsey and Reece a bit to late in my privious message -
CASEY was already in town!!
Best of all to you and your family!

my husband and I considered it if we had a son, but alas, Allyson
arrived instead. Have fun being a dad!

| Congratulations! Casey Ryan is a great name! (My daughter is Caileigh
Ryan, so I'm biased.)
For future reference:
I _love_ Reese (with an s) Chapman.
Re an earlier response:
No need to spell Tracy with an i or ie if it's for a girl. On the
other hand, the name Tracy Chapman is already taken...
