I'd vote for Amy or Amelia if you have a girl. You could have
the option of Amy as a nickname if you give a girl the name
Amelia. My wife and I like these names and coincidentally
are thinking of using them if we have a girl. I think that
Amelia is more uncommon than Amy as a given name. Amelia
sounds a bit more old-fashioned than Amy though.
As for boys' names, it shouldn't be hard to come up with one
you like that sounds good with Thompson. None of the boys' names
listed struck my fancy. Boys' names are harder to choose
than girls' names. How about Mark? Michael is okay, but a very
popular choice. It would do, but if you want something less
common, ...
Good luck. There's a wealth of good names from which to choose.

| I note that for boys names you seem to prefer celtic names (Sean/Rory/Angus
/Cameron/Alexander). How about Alistair, my favourite and what I was going
to call my son (I got a daughter instead and called her Aydine Fiona).
There are many spellings for this name Alasdair, Alister, etc, etc.
It seems to go quite nicely with your surname, I think.

529.3 | Oh no! Not the dreaded "Angus" | CLOVE::MACDONALD_K | | Tue May 22 1990 16:51 | 13 |
| Oh please... try to talk your husband out of Angus! That name
brings up images of an old, old man playing the bagpipes!
Everyone in this conference who knows me can already guess what
I will suggest for a boys' names:
Ian (my favorite)
Evan (my second favorite)
Good luck and congratulations!

529.4 | One from column A one fro column B | NYSBU::CHANG | | Fri May 25 1990 15:49 | 22 |
| Of course you can always take the first list presented and pick
a first name from one side and a middle name from the other.
For example:
Amy Natasha
Ilana Natalie
Amy Amelia
Leah Natalie
Charles Rory
Alexander Michael
Benjamin Alexander
Cameron Phillip
etc.
Maybe the mom-to-be can pick the first name for a daughter and middle
name for a son and the father visa versa! Just a thought.

529.6 | Crooked nose Thompson
| IOSG::THOMPSONR | Nostalgia isn't what it used to be | Thu Jun 07 1990 09:48 | 20 |
| I think we've decided on Amy as the first name now. Problem is, I don't want to
use up all my favourite names as middle names because I'm planning on having a
large family!
I think we'll choose Amy as the first name, possibly Natasha as the second.
For a boy, don't worry I think I have made my feelings about 'Angus' quite clear.
I think he was half suggesting it to wind me up anyway! But I still think
Rory is quite nice.
We've also come up with Sebastian, which we both like. We might end up with
Amy ? Thompson
Sebastian George Thompson
Incidentally, I read in my latest 'baby book' that Cameron means 'Crooked Nose'
Is this true???!! If it is we may end up using it, as crooked noses run in my
family!!
It also said that Cambpell means crooked mouth...

| Amy Natasha Thompson = A.N.T.
I also like Sebastian, but wonder what kind of nickname he would
end up with. Maybe George Sebastian to eliminate any concern of
a nickname (unless you have already figured this one out)!

529.8 | Great Idea!!! | 45944::THOMPSONR | Nostalgia isn't what it used to be | Wed Jul 04 1990 08:34 | 32 |
| You have just given me an idea(indirectly)....
The reason I have been humming and haa-ing about Sebastian is that it gets
shortened to Seb (as in Seb Coe - the runner). I really don't like Seb as a
nickname.
I think I'm going to suggest
Charles Sebastian Thompson
I think that has a nice ring to it, and he can always use Sebastian as his first
name if he wants something more unique than Charles.
I like the nickname Charlie, and I think Charlie Thompson sounds quite good too.
We thought we might include the family name of Kirk (on my mother-in-law's side)
so that might go something like:
Charles Sebastian Kirk Thompson
and similarly
Amy Natasha Kirk Thompson
if it's a girl, although I'm not decided on this yet as it's a nice idea but a
bit of a mouthful!
Thanks for the idea! Now the tough part - I'll see how the other half likes it!

P.S. 17 weeks to go!

529.9 | Good 'ole Mr. French | SAGE::MACDONALD_K | | Thu Jul 05 1990 16:28 | 7 |
| Oh, I don't know... Sebastian is a distinguished name, but I
can't get the image of Sebastian Cabot out of my head. Remember?
He was the fat guy who played the butler on 'Family Affair'...
I can hear Buffy and Jody yelling "Mr. French! Mr. French!"

At least he was a COOL cat! ;^)

| I recently saw the name "Zachary" and really liked it. If you are
still open to other suggestions...
Zachary Kirk Thompson
The nickname, if you use it, would also sound good... Zach Thompson.

| When I hear Sebastian I think of the cute crustation in the movie
"Little Mermaid". He was great! The funniest thing I've ever seen!
