519.1 | Opinion on Maxwell | OBSESS::NEWTON | | Fri Mar 30 1990 09:23 | 20 |
| As you can tell, this is my first time using notes. I think it's
great! My husband and I are expecting our first child in 6 weeks.
We are desperately trying to agree on a boys name. I really like the
name Blake but he doesn't like it at all (reminds him of Dynasty). We
just came upon the name Maxwell. We both don't know any Max's and
think it's a nice name.
Please give me your opinion/suggestions
We wanted to use a family name for the middle name, the choices are:
Maxwell Newton Zettler or Maxwell Xavier Zettler
Any advices or other names would greatly appreciated. We picked out
Kayla Marie for a girl.
Thanks in advance for your help.

519.2 | I like Maxwell | CLOVE::MACDONALD_K | | Fri Mar 30 1990 09:37 | 12 |
| I like Maxwell. My friend Tanya named her son Maxwell and he's
a neat kid, so I have good associations with that name. But I
know what you mean about agreeing upon a name. My husband and
I had a terrible time! If I made a suggestion, he's say "Absolutely
not. I knew a real *^%#$$%%^ in school with that name so I hate it!"
And just about the same thing came out of my mouth when he made a
suggestion. You're definately alone... Picking out a name for your
child is probably one of the most difficult things you'll do.
Good Luck and Congratulations,
Kathryn

| Sorry... I meant to say "You're definately NOT alone..."
I think faster than I type which really isn't saying too much
for my typing skills. :-)

| I'm "eh" on the name Maxwell, but I LOVE the nickname Max, and Maxwell
is better than, say, Maxemillion.
I know someone with the middle name Xavier (and he HATES it, even tho
its only a middle name!)

519.5 | my humble opinion | CHCLAT::HAGEN | Please send truffles! | Fri Mar 30 1990 15:11 | 6 |
| I, too, really like the name Max. However, Maxwell reminds me of
Maxwell Smart on the old TV show "Get Smart".
I think Maxwell Newton sounds better than Maxwell Xavier. Too many X's in
the latter. (His initials would be MXZ ... sounds like a model of sports
car!)

| Maxwell reminds me of Maxwell's Equations. And Newton, he discovered
the laws of gravity among other things. Maxwell Newton would be a
tough name to live up to, but I like it.
Maxwell also reminds me of the Beatles song "Maxwell's Silver Hammer"

| Maxwell also reminds me of Maxwell Smart from the old TV show "Get
Smart." I always picture that actor's face, as he looked then,
when I hear it. But, other than that I like it okay.
I think Max is a nice nickname also, which helps.
The name, Maximillion, always reminds me of a little story book
I had as a kid called "Maximillion Rabbit" that had a picture of
a white rabblit dressed in pants and shirt on the front. :-)
Another similar name is Maxfield, as in Maxfield Parrish.
I prefer Maxwell Newton to Maxwell Xavier. The name Xavier makes
me think of Irish politicians! (you don't really want to do that
to your kid, do you?) :-)

519.8 | Max "fit" this baby | TIPTOE::STOLICNY | | Wed Apr 04 1990 08:31 | 7 |
| My husband and I have friends with a 1.5 year old named Maxwel
(they use Max as a nickname also). They had originally selected
Kyle for the baby's name; but when he weighed in at 11+ lbs (!!),
they thought Max was more appropriate! (Kyle seems kind of
diminutive). FWIW, I also prefer Maxwel Newton.

519.9 | Maxwell Newton | KYOA::CHANG | | Thu Apr 05 1990 09:35 | 5 |
| I like Maxwell Newton. My best friend named one of her son's Maxwell.
At the time it wasn't a very popular name (about 14 years ago), but I
have been seeing it a little more often now.

Well, I, too, think of Maxwell Smart, but if you have a son and
name him Maxwell, his peers will probably not make the association
readily, if at all.
Maxwell was the Scottish physicist's surname by the way.
Max Zettler sounds okay. Prefer it to Maxwell, but that is
just one opinion.
I kind of agree about the multiple Xs -- monotonous and not as
interesting a combination as Maxwell Newton.
Are you and your spouse open to other names? I was sorta undecided
what we would have named our baby if she had been a boy. I
am glad we didn't use the final choice for a boy's name, as
I realized it was just not really to my liking (tho' my wife liked
it). In rtetrospect, it wouldn't have been a bad choice I
suppose. What weight society gives names!
Whatever you choose, do choose something you both like. It
should be a joint decision. If you can't agree on a name, keep
trying, cross your fingers, etc.
