| No Serena. You aren't the only ones to do that!
One name that my husband and I were thinking of for a boy was "David",
but we chose against it because we didn't want a David we know to think
that we were naming a child after HIM.
Names I would never choose because of association:
Rebecca
Virginia
David
Valerie
Jennifer
Stephanie
Meagan
Eric
(Incidentially; Serena is a BEAUTIFUL name! One I may keep in file for
future possibilities)
There have also been other examples all over this notesfile!

I swear EVERYONE does that. And THEN, when you and your husband have narrowed
it down to one or two names that you both agree on, EVERYONE in your family will
eventually say - "I knew someone with that name in high school and I
hated them" or "I used to know someone with that name and they were a real
jerk" ... Or something along those lines.

| Serena,
No you aren't the only one who thinks like that. There are certain
names that my husband and I both don't care for by associating them
with people that we know. For example, I would never name a child
of mine Sharon because I have known too many Sharons that I didn't
care for. (apologies to any Sharon reading this column) Maybe thats
why I try to pick uncommon names for my children.

| Yes, I fall into that category, too. Names I would never pick
as names for my children are:
Margaret
Shannon
and the list goes on...
I think we all do that. By the way... for your future
plans, I think "JEREMY LYONS" is a very beautiful combination
for a boy.

506.5 | Thanks!! | DELNI::SBERGERON | | Mon Mar 19 1990 14:42 | 11 |
| Jennifer,
I agree. I like the name Jeremy. Thanks for the suggestion. Do you have
any suggestions for girls' names? I would like something different but
not strange and definately not something the child will hate. I really
like the name Amanda but unfortunatley everytime I say that name I
associate it with someone that turns my stomach. (I really wish there
was a way around that!!)
Thank you again Jennifer.

506.6 | more suggestions... | JAIMES::WHITCOMB | | Thu Mar 22 1990 08:31 | 15 |
| I really like these names for girls:
Lauren
Lindsay
Alicia (pronounced A-LEE-CEE-A, accent on LEE)
Alison
I actually have quite a list of both girls and boys
names that I like, but I can't think of them all off
the top of my head, and I won't bore you with names
you've already seen in this file.
Hope this helps!

506.7 | Positive Association | KYOA::CHANG | | Thu Apr 05 1990 09:46 | 7 |
| Another approach to naming a baby is to think of names of family
members and friends (living or deceased) that you and your spouse
really like. Instead of being concerned with possible negative
associations, you will be starting off with a very positive approach
and can pick a first and/or middle name that way. Just a suggestion.

| Chris,
Thanks for the suggestion. I guess I always tend to think the worst.
I've been trying to turn a new leaf and look at things more positively
and why not start with this subject. Thanks again.
